Calling All Power Lifting Competitors

I'm looking at competing in my first power lifting competition in march and I have a question - How do you choose a federation? Is it bad to join a new federation that seems active? There is a federation that meets at / competes at my gym... but I know it's new, and that would probably turn some people off. I've tried to research other federations but it doesn't look like they have anything current or they don't have websites.

I was a competitive powerlifter fo rover 20 years. I don't think it matters what "federation" you join. Most of my meets when I began were AAU I believe. Really doesn't matter. Join, compete and have fun...0

I'd say just do one- and one that' active locally.
I just signed up and backed out of my first oneI'm hoping I'll jump on the next event- February just was a bad month for me.
Go forth- do it- then start making other decisions!!! have fun and kick *kitten*!!!0 -
Thanks guys. I have been reading up on competing and it's suggested to watch a meet before competing in one - do you think this is important? The cost keeps adding up too - competition, federation dues, and apparently I have to buy a singlet as well. :P0

IMO, find a meet you want to attend, and join the fed you have to in order to attend that meet. Singlets aren't too bad; about $40 on amazon for a basic Asics wrestling-style singlet.0
