So Frustrated! :(

I just need to vent. I started my weight loss journey in October, and I've been losing pretty steadily since then. As of today I've lost 27lbs. I still would like to lose another 40lbs at least.

Currently, my weight loss seems to have stalled. I'm so frustrated because I am SO far from my goal and I feel like it's a struggle to lose every single pound.

I went to a nutritionist at Mass General Hospital (so I know she's legit!) back in the fall and she recommended that I eat 1400 calories a day regardless of exercise. I have been staying pretty close to this, although on days when I burn a lot of calories (400+) I will eat closer to 1600. I work out 4-5 times a week at minimum- I do a mix of cardio and lifting. I use a Polar heart rate monitor so I know that I am not overestimating my burn. I measure some of my food. If I'm having peanut butter, I will measure out a tablespoon. However, I get most of my meats from Whole Foods, and I use the measurement on the package. I really do not think I am underestimating my food.

Yesterday I signed up for the Labrada nutrition 12 week challenge. The basics are to eat at 40 protein/30 fat/30 carb for macros. And the biggie for me is that sugar (except from fruit) should be kept at 25 grams. I am hoping that cleaning up my diet will help. If anyone looks at my diary, I am definitely not the cleanest eater! However, I've always thought that 200 calories is the same whether it comes from 2 apples or a Snickers?

Does anyone have any other suggestions?? I'm struggling :(

  • So sorry you are getting frustrated! Really the best advice I can give you is to get a digital food scale and make sure you have the correct entries in your food diary. I didn't get a food scale until about two weeks ago and it is shocking how much I was overestimating things I was measuring with tablespoons. As in my eight tablespoons of pb2 was more like 14-16 tablespoons of pb2. That's a lot is extra calories I didn't know I was consuming. Same with nuts. I was adding at least 20 calories a serving because I wasn't weighing them. My bananas were off by 20-50 calories as well. Digital food scale. It changed my life. No joke.

Thanks! I was thinking that today as well. I was thinking about fruit- I often will have a salad of grapes, pineapples, and strawberries and I have NO idea how to even log that. So definitely weighing it would be a plus.
  • I am moving to maintenance but as I started to up my calories to get closer to my maintenance calories my weighoss stopped dead in it's tracks. I knew something had to be off because here I was eating 2350/day and my fitbit is saying I am burning 2600/day. I assumed it was just the fitbit being off. But then as I started upping my activities at the gym I still wasn't losing as I should have been burning 2800/day and eating 2350/day. So after two months of no changes and even a little weight gain over the holidays I finally gave in and got a food scale. Have had it for two weeks and I lost a pound last week. Exactly as I should have according to my fitbit. Weighing makes a huge difference!!
