Its a deterrent when the scale says I'm gaining.

I am eating right, and after week two after incorporating exercise my leg muscles were so sore, the scale says I'm gaining. I know its muscle, but whyyyyyy??? Its unequivocally annoying because I've been doing everything right. Before when I would diet I would avoid exercise but my body would look flabby. Now the scale is going up, when will it go back down?? Its as if all of my dieting/lifestyle change and exercise and drinking my adequate amount of water is all in vain.

Your muscles are storing water to repair. The scale almost always goes up when you're sore from a hard workout. It's just water weight.0

omg thank you!!!0 -
I like to think it means you are using them HARD! My muscle water/glycogen weight took 8 weeks before it dwindled down (that's unusual for it to be so long, apparently). But my muscles got firm and nice fast, and that was motivating on its own.
Use a tape measure on lots of consistent spots. The inches lost might surprise you! I lost more inches when the scale was up from muscle changes than I have since I started losing scale weight better, lol.0 -

Agreed with this. My first week of doing really heavy cardio, I actually went up three pounds in four days, despite eating better, burning thousands of calories in the gym every day, and about doubling my water consumption. I kept at it though and my body eventually acclimated and started dropping pounds.0 -
Who cares what the scales say? Losing body fat and looking smaller is better than losing scale weight isnt it?0

You can't build muscle eating at a deficit, but it's definitely water weight.
It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound of fat. As long as you're properly logging your food (weighing everything), and properly logging your exercise (not eating too much back), you KNOW that you're eating at a deficit and that it's impossible to gain fat.0 -
OP, in your profile pic you look smokin' hot! You've got to be pretty close to your ideal weight, right?
Shaping up when you're that close does tend to add a bit of poundage on the scale. You're doing it right0 -

Sorry but you did not gain muscle in two weeks0 -
Its water weight. Your muscles are trying to repair themselves. It will go away after a few days of rest.0

Just weight all solids and measure all liquids, meet your calorie goals, and continue your exercise. I'll bet in a few weeks you will start losing again.
Weight loss is not linear.
Oh, don't forget to take measurements. They are the true tell-all.0 -

OMG this blog really helped me figure out why I went from 228.8lbs to 224.6lbs to 227lbs in 2 weeks.... I saw the 4lb weight loss and started being more active cuz I was getting excited and the more active I have became the more weight I gained in the past few days. I hope ya'll are right and I start to see my weight drop soon. I have been dieting and exercising for a month now and no change yet. Thanks ya'll0

Ignore that the tumbler is called fat 2 skinny fast. It's not mine. BUT, this was excellent motivation for me to transition from using a scale to using a tape measure once per month. I don't go by the scale anymore (except at the Dr.). Just how my clothes fit and my measurements. What gets minded are my calories, exercise, and non exercise activity (getting up and walking as opposed to sitting at my desk)0
