Well I guess no money means no fast food on the way to and from work. Lol. This is my second attempt at logging my food and excersize, the last two weeks didn't go so well, but I'm going to keep trying. I keep forgetting, probably on purpose, to weigh myself so I have no new numbers to post and with working twelve hour nights again this week I doubt there will be much time for working out after I've caught up on sleep. Anyway here goes attempt number two!

I want the old me back!

Working nights can be a real damper in your nutrition AND your fitness plans. Some days I barely wake up before I have to wake up so I try to eat a little healthier on those days and increase exercise on the days when I'm not so sleepy. Sleep is every bit as important as eating and working out. Finding the balance is soo dang hard. Good luck and great to see that you keep coming back.

Well it sounds like you have all the excuses taken care of. lol.

    Hang in there.

The fact that you had a post shows you're still thinking about it. Thoughts become actions. Actions become a lifestyle.

    You will get there.

Stay with us, keep trying. And don't worry about the numbers. Just eat as well as you can and add a little exercise eg. marching on the spot as you brush your teeth, it may not be recordable but you know you are helping yourself.

Hang in there. If you stick with it and dont give up you will eventually get there. Just do little bits of extra exercise when you can., walk in place while talking on the phone, park further away at work so you have to walk, maybe do a little walking on your break, on youtube there is a lady I think on exercisetv that does daily 100s they are easy was of adding just 100 of an exercise, all these little things add up. Dont give up you can do it
  • I work nights to and its insane. I hate also how it does not show your stuff if you do it the next day. I cant help it that my day ends on the next day when everyone else's is starting.

I know how that is. I work some 12 hr. shifts this week too. Those days are hard, but on the plus side, if you are working for 12 hrs you are still getting some exercise in from work. If you can't find time to workout those days, then don't worry you can just do it when you have a shorter work day or the day off.

    Hey RDennis1990,
I know how you feel. To may this work I absolutley had to make my own lunches / breakfast and bring it to work. I don't miss the drive thru. I never make my lunch the night b/4 - I am way too tired. I make it when I get up/right b/4 I have to leave for work   but it beats starving....

Oh...BTW I don't exercise - I clean my house. That is it now until I can drop more weight.

My hours are not as bad as yours I am 11am-8pm M-F. View my diary if you like, There are time I use subway and other fast food but for my own gain. Subway has a 2.50 breakfast combo right now. I use Pei Wei for a side serving of rice noodles for under 3.00 or even less. This of course for those days that I had to run errands b/4 work and or go to Doctor and not eat for bloodwork so if you have to buy - buy it on the Cheap. I am not ashamed to say that!

I don't know where you shop but here are a few tips I have:

    Sam's Club has:
Arnold sandwich rounds (2pack / 8 per pack) 16 100 calorie sandwich rounds 3.50?? or less
An 8 pack alone is 2.99 in grocery store

    or

Thomas Bagel Thins (2pack / 8 per pack) 16 110 calorie bagel thins $4.45??or less
An 8 pack alone is $2.50-$2.99 in the grocery store

These are for my lunch sandwiches, sandwich, mustard, lunch meat (2 pieces), Cheese (String, Lite BabyBell, or whatever is in my fridge)

I generally buy 4 bags of each & freeze them until my next visit there.

The Laughing Cow cheese wedge 35 calories per wedge (3 wheels) One wheel in grocery store is $3.50-$3.99
I use these with the bread above or Wasa Crisps - not everyones favorite (I like the whole wheat)

The Laughing Cow Lite BabyBell - Yummy $6.00

Sorrento Cheese sticks = 90 or 100 calories light string cheese > Snack $ don't remember how much

    Walmart
Great Value 90 to 100 calorie ganola bars 18 pack is under $3.00 (different boxes - some asst )
I sometime break them up and put it in the Great Value light yogurt for breakfast/ with lunch / for snack

Great value 100 calorie mini chocolate chip cookies / choc striped shortbread ( crumble either into Yogurt..yum)
    I can't remember how much 6 in a box....

Store brand whole wheat waffles 2 waffles = 160 calories ($2.27 for 16 waffles) Breakfast or snack
Store brand sugar free syrup = $1.39
In the Grocery is splurge on Tribe organic Roasted Garlic Hummus ( spread on bread or breads above)
    2 tablespoons = 50 calories

Lifesaver Orange Mints to keep my mouth busy 4 mints = 60 calories
    Smarties I use when I want a sweet 1 roll = 25 calories

I too have to budget very carefully.....

You/Anyone can friend me & if you want to talk more in depth. I will share whatever I can
It is only food for fuel ~ thats how I see it now. I have to eat to live.
When I can exercise for more calories then I can enjoy some REAL treats

You have the will to lose it - Why weight? - Don't let anything stop you!

I work in a hospital as a nurse tech. You would think the amount of walking, pushing patients, repositioning patients and so on would help with the weight loss, but I have gained more weight since I've started here.

And honestly, I don't think I'm trying to make excuses or at least not on purpose. But I do feel that third shift is a disadvantage. I like to go to the gym when I wake up, but at 7:30 at night the gyms where I live are closed. The closest "late night" gym is an hour away. Going to the gym when I get off work is like going to work out an hour before bed. There is no energy to put into the workout.

As for sleep at night (or day for normal people). I get off work at 7:30, drive an hour home, then sleep until 4:30 when it's time to get ready for work again. That's exactly eight hours if I go to bed as soon as I get home. My days off consist of housework, cleaning, laundry, and is often sprinkled with a few small naps. On my days off I feel so exhausted, I honeslty stay up for a few hours then take a nap, then up, then nap.

Maybe I am complaining and making excuses but I feel this graveyard shift is an unfair advantage and many people say it is hard on your body. Anyway I'm finishing today's unhealthy yet under goal diary so....

Preaching to the choir here! I know exactly what you mean. I work nice as a Mental Health Specialist in a psych hospital. I'm lucky enough to have access to a college gym that closes a bit later but even so i've actually got to do things sometimes and by the time I'm done doing them and sleeping, there's no time for working out. Usually I can barely sneak in an 8 min video or 30 min yoga session before having to heard to work.

Not to mention that without actually making your food, your options are severely limited for what to eat for "lunch" at work. Everything good for you is closed and your options are Chinese or Pizza.

Keep logging! That's the key. Even if you're eating crap and not doing a lick of activity, keep logging. Eventually you'll get someone on here with the right suggestion for you or you'll figure it out yourself. But yeah, nights totally suck for health routines.

Hi!! I was not saying your were making excuses. There is not enough time in the day. I live that life!!

I was just trying to help with some other food options - If you can talk to a Nutritionist ( I love mine!!) to help you with food that might help you feel better/ give you energy. I found that I was Vitamin D defient (most women are / if you are) I am on prescribed Vitmin D one pill a week with 53K milligrams. I can believe how much better I feel. It may be worth a try to talk to someone before you take anything. But keep with it!!! Keep diary posting!!
    Good Luck!!
