Some tips needed to keep on track

Hello everyone!

I am a 26 year old girl from Belgium (actually living in Germany) and I have just joined My Fitness Pal!

I have 10 kilos to lose (I have already lost about 20 kilos by eating healthier and doing exercises). But more importantly, as I am an emotional eater, I need a journal so I know what I eat in a day and I can stay focused.

My main problem is that it is "all or nothing" with me. If I eat bad one day or if I don't exercise I won't be able to say "That's okay, I will eat lighter or exercise longer tomorrow". I will just feel like a failure and I will easily quit. Then I will start again but it takes me more motivation than before and it also takes me more and more time to get back on track. I have done T25 some months ago, I had good results and I felt amazingly good but, unfortunately, I had to stop for two weeks. I never did it again nor any other workouts since then, even if I know it worked well for me. I feel pretty stupid, I don't know why I quit so easily especially when I have results...

So If you have any motivation tips that can help me stay focused and be consistent with the choices I make, feel free to share! :)

I hope I will find friends here and that we will keep on track together! :)

Welcome! This is a great place to be. I used to be a lot like you in that I would do great for a while but if I missed a day or two or if I ate really bad one day, I would be really hard on myself and it became really difficult for me to stick with it. I finally found a reason to get healthy that had enough meaning to me it changed the way I looked at things. I know there are going be good days and bad days this is a process so i am teaching myself a little each day to let the mistakes go and just move forward. Maybe when you have a bad day and feel like quitting that would be a good time to hop on here to get the support you need to keep going. And find your why. its not enough to just want to lose weight you need to dig and find a reason why you want to lose weight. something that has some real meaning to you and will add to your motivation to keep going. Then when you are having an off day just remind yourself why you are doing this. Good luck and we are here if you need us
  • The way I look at things, is day by day. I set my goal to 'be within my calories for the day' (and also set a limit to how much over i can be too without guilting myself). Small goals help me the most with my loss. I have my daily goals, weekly goals and monthly goals. My daily goals help my weekly and weekly helps my monthly! Stepping stones! I reward myself each month because I don't want to seem like I'm letting myself go too easy. And in a month I've lost 10lbs! Time to reward myself. Just don't give up! You're doing great if you've already lost 2/3rds of what you want to! Great job!

Weight loss isn't all or nothing. In other words it's not linear. One could do something one week and have a good loss and the next week doing the same exact protocol gain a pound. Once you figure out that it's just being consistent that's the key, it's easier to keep on track.

  • Thank you for your nice answers :)

I think MFP will help me be consistent and create a habit. I love to have a routine but when I lost control of it, when unexpected things happen, I quit my habits. I have to learn that I can adapt and be consistent. Daily/weekly/monthly goals are also a good idea because I don't have short-terms goals to help me to stay focused.
I will also work on my emotional eating problem and try to understand why I act like that and what are really my needs so I can solve this problem.
