21 KILOMETER HALF MARATHON RUN

so i got invited by a workmate to do the sydney half marathon on may 2014, Is there anyone here who runs regularly and knows what realistic training protocol i can incorporate in the nexth three months to prepar myself for it. I workout 5 times a week and my fitness is average, I used to do lots of cardio but never really run that far in one go, i can run 5k in under half an hour in a normal run so I guess if I TRAIN for 3 months I should be able to run 21k in a normal/above average speed. ANY TIPS OR SUGGESTIONS, thanks

Just so you know, 13 miles is a lot different than a 5k. A lot different. Most people's goal for their first half should be just to finish it. Check out Jeff Galloway or Hal Higdon for good training plans.

I followed a similar training schedule for my first half this past November. Good luck and have fun!

Hey. I have used Hal Higdon's training plans before and I quite like them. Depending on what sort of running base you have you might prefer Galloway's training method; http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/half-marathon-training/

Also I'm pretty sure when you register for Sydney they should give you access to a training plan. These are never ideal IMO but it should be enough to get you through and may give you an idea of some of the other local resources (training groups, running clubs, specialist stores etc) available if you are not strictly into running.

    Have fun :)

That's for sure. It's a lot of work. But find a plan, stick with it, get the miles in no matter what and you'll be okay. Get your miles in. No matter what. For me, making the time is the hardest part.
  • good luck! That's a fantastic goal and just think of all the food your going to earn afterwards lol!

RAIN CHECK on that dropping 30grams of carbs, i might hold on to that carbs for now and put the hours in on this running thing, eitherways i see it as a win win since the end goal is to dial down body fat to sexypants.... lol
