I'm needing to get back into excercising again - gym is impractical for me at the moment so want to do soemthing I can fit in at home. I've heard a bit about all these but was wondering what sort of results have people gotten from tem? I'd preferably want to do something that does not require any or much equipment. Thanks!

I'm doing p90x and it normally requires dumbells, resistance bands, and a chair. There are other items used in the video but he normally gives you an alternative. I've seen a lot of people with good results from p90x, but about 1/2 of the people I know (in real life, not via MFP) stop doing it after a week or so because of the intensity. A group of girls I know are doing Zumba and have seen great results from it, if you're interested in that.
Not much advice...just my two cents!0 -
30 day shred is amazing! You only need a set of hand weights.0

I'm doing Turbo Fire right now, which is a fantastic workout, you can modify it for whatever intensity you want, and the only equipment it uses it a resistance band with handles (and a "lower body band" that comes with the DVD set). I've also done the 30 Day Shred and I used 2 lb and 5 lb hand weights. I graduated from the Shred to Turbo Fire though.0

I keep hearing about the 30 Day Shred so I hopped on Amazon to check it out. The reviews were amazing! And it's only 9 dollars! I ended up getting 3 other Jillian Michaels DVDs. I can't wait to start it. I am so bored with the treadmill - even intervals.0

P90X - high intensity workout, great results if you are consistent. The results are lasting, but require maintenance. As stated, you need a few weights, a chair and a resistance band, but a few exercises require a pull-up bar, too. The workouts are pretty long usually 45-90 min.
Slim in 6 - Debbie Siebers is great, the exercises can become a little boring but they go from a warm up routine to a higher impact and longer duration. The results are good, but don't expect to lose many pounds, mostly inches. The workout requires a resistance band. The workouts start at 20 min and go to 60 min by the last DVD.
Insanity - is just that, insane. The workout is HIGHER impact than P90X, but from what I've heard results are FANTASTIC!
No comment on 30 Day Shred, I've never had any experience with it.0 -
I love your goal list! I have one similar and find it inspiring to know I am not alone! I have done the 30 day shred and have to admit it kicked my butt at first. I spent the first two weeks on phase one and two more on phase 2. I never finished to phase 3 but seriously loved the DVD. It is hard but worth it. My cardiovascular indurance went up though I did not drop any weight I felt so much more in shape. I'm actually looking to do another round but this time I will see it through to the end.0

Im in my last week of Insanity. It really lives up to its name...Insane. But its great. You dont need any equipment at all just your body.
Turbokick(which I teach) is great too. You can get Turbojam which is the home version of it.
P90x is great for strength training but not very cardio intense.
Slim in 6 I would reccomend for older people or people that are just beginning working out it is very low intense.
Any questions feel free to ask.

I am doing Insanity and it is truly insane but really a great workout I just started week 4 yesterday and I have lost numerous inches all over and weight as well! You don't need any equipment
I actually own all of the programs you mentioned and they all work as long as you work the program!! 30 day shred you only need hand weghts. Slm n 6 come wth the bands. P90x come with it's band I love them all!!
P90X I only lost 13lbs but the inches you lose are incredible and t has 3 different workout plans you can follow!!
Which ever you decide I think you will pleasantly pleased with your results!!0 -
P90X I haven't done but like another poster said a lot of people quit it within a couple weeks. (Non MFP'ers).
30 Day Shred - I did the first 20 days but I could not handle all the jumping. Really killed my shins for some reason. So, you will have to think of the intensity you want to go with.
Insanity I heard is insane! Hmm. lol. Maybe not something you want to start with right off the bat.
I personally love ChaLEAN Extreme. That is what I am doing. I am on the third month of it and the changes are amazing soo far. Within the first two months I did lose 13 inches, 4 pounds. I can't believe how toned my shoulders are getting.
Also, with you just getting back in the routine of working out and aren't sure if you want to make the investment yet into these programs you may want to try the 10 minute solutions workouts also. But to really push up your routine you will want to move up to one of the programs like P90X, Chalean Extreme or even Turbo Jam is a great one.
Best of luck!0 -
I didn't care for the 30-Day Shred. I found it to be boring.
I have Power 90, which is kind of like the intro to P90X. Also, boring. I lasted about a month, and I couldn't take it any more.
I have Slim in 6. Again, really didn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, it's a great program, but I found Debbie to be really inconsistent. You do one move on the right side, then she forgets to do it on the left, you do a 12 count on one side, and 14 on othe other side, etc, etc. Maybe it's my OCD kicking in, but that drove me absolutely NUTS! It was all I could focus on.
I also have TurboFire, which I love, love, love! Super high intensity, great music, high energy. I just got TurboJam, just for some variety, and that's turning out to be kind of like an intro to TurboFire, so I ordered the workouts backwards, but whatever. Great toning and ab work for both.
Haven't done P90X or Insanity, so got nothing on those.
What ever you do, it has to be interesting and challenging for you. Best of luck!0 -
I've done all the ones you've mentioned, and out of those I would definitely go for P90X as it's the most well-rounded. There's 12 workouts so you probably won't get bored for a while.
But TurboFire is by far the funnest workout out there right now. I've been doing it since it came out, so about 5-6 months now and I STILL love it. That has never happened before! lol I usually get bored of things pretty quickly.0 -
I decided that THIS was my year to buckle down and get in shape.....I have been totally committed..finished one round of p90x all 13 weeks and now on the 4th week of my second round. There are 12 different workouts, so it's easier to stay engaged....you've got to push yourself...it's HARD....I started with 244 pounds and have worked off 46 of those pounds and have seen a lot of inches disappear...I'm working out about 2/3 hours a day...bleachers, bike rides, jogging, changing it up to keep me motivated. I've never been one to do much "cardio" exercise..hate it....but I'm determined. 30 day shred...boring..couldn't stick with it....my husband is also getting up and working out with me, so that has helped too. Got lots of people praying for me and my mind is right...I'm determined to do it this time....determined4ever!!! Whatever you decide to do....go for it gung ho....don't give into the "sleeping in" or taking one day off...MFP is a great tool...keeps ya honest! JUST DO SOMETHING......0

I've not tried the others, but I'm loving the 30 day shred right now.0
