I just can't seem to lose weight?

I am 5'6 and 62kg. My goal weight is 52kg.
For the last six months I have been dieting & exercising. I would eat 1200 & burn off 300-600 calories every day, but I had no results. In fact I gained. At the start of this year I was 55kg, and now I am 62, as I said. I am not losing weight at all, and this is seriously one of the most disheartening things. I got so low that I actually began eating only around 300-500 cal a day, which by the way, did not make me lose ANY weight. I have resorted to lowering my calorie intake to about 800, which yes is low, but I am not active at all unless I am exercising, and running 5km + walking 6km every day. I feel pretty crap eating this amount, I feel like I am eating too much so it is quite the struggle. Anyway I have been doing this for the last four weeks and no results, none at all. my stomach & thighs are big as ever and I'm starting to really really hate how I look.
I am beginning to think that I can't lose weight. I just keep gaining & gaining no matter what I do. Can somebody please help me? I don't know what I am doing wrong!
edit: oh this is also a new account, I lost the password to my old one :-)

Get to a doctor. Have your thyroid, vitamin D, and iodine levels checked.
If you are honestly eating at those rates, and exercising at those rates, and gaining, not losing, something metabolic is out of whack.0 -
52 kgs for someone who is 5'6 seems an incredibly low weight. Maybe your body needs to be where it is.0

Also.. pregnant?0

I will try get it checked out, also it's definitely worth mentioning that when I was eating really low (300) I would overeat every week or so, and consume about 1000 calories worth of sugary mess. That is why I stopped! I am not pregnant, I have considered that theory myself, but I got pregnancy tests and nope
And yes, well 52kg is how much I was told was a good weight for me by a couple of different people, though they are not experts so maybe I shouldn't trust their opinion. I look like I weigh a bit more than 62 because of I have a very flabby stomach & tops of thighs. I was originally aiming for 55kg but I was given this advice and decided to follow it.0 -
That seems like an arbitrary weight to set based on opinions from others (did you just go around asking random people hire much you should weigh or something?)
If your only issues are flabby stomach and thighs then why not look into something like a body recomposition program that involves weight lifting and a slight calorie.
Also if you weren't losing weight eating only 300 calories a day then you were eating more than you thought you were. Its scientifically impossible for people to not lose weight consistently eating less calories than their bodies need. Do you weigh and measure your food or are you just eyeballing?0 -
You're a healthy weight now. Keep exercising to improve your muscle tone, but I'd say you should be eating at a maintenance level and definitely not trying to starve yourself.0
