body fat scale frustration

I am new to the community and I am sure tgis has been discussed before but I'd like some feedback, please.
HealthoMeter scale shows me at:

192 lbs 44.5% body fat 40.5% water 5.4 bone density 32.3 bmi

Now, I'm busty at a 38D and have a big booty but I do not have a huge stomach or legs. Could that body fat % be accurate or should I stop trusting my scale beyond the weight? 44.5 seems SO high.

And I'm 29yo and 5'5"

Thanks all.

    192 lbs, 44.5% B.F. 32.2 BMI.

If you lost 50 lbs and it was all fat you would get to 25% body fat. These sound reasonable to me. You're about 5ft5 ?

My scale is completely bunk. It tells me I'm at 35% body fat, and that in the last 2 years I've only gone down from 36%. Meanwhile, I've gone from size 10 to comfortable size 2/4 jeans. I joined a gym in August, they measured me at 26.8% body fat then (the hand-held devise, still iffy but seems better than my scale), and last week the same device measured me at 22.4% (and I got the 35% from the scale the same week because I wanted to compare).

I would ignore that function of your scale.

They are highly inaccurate. When I was getting the pinch test done I was at 28% bf but my scale would tell me I was 38% bf and the handheld would say 24%. It's really only useful at gauging whether you are losing body fat versus muscle as you lose weight.
  • Yarwell, 50lbs would be a dream. That would put me at my exact weight 11 years ago. I see your point on the math and I also see mathjulz point about the inaccuracies of the scales. I'll just focus on the controlled calories and workouts for now. I'm 8 days into the 30dayshred and have already lost 10+" and 4lbs. I'm liking my mirror more than my scale right now.

What several above have said. If you really want to know body fat, get dunked or find a bodpod.

Scales, things you hold onto, and even skinfold calipers can be WILDLY inaccurate.

Alternately, stop worrying about body fat percentage. Eat balanced, eat less than you take in, and count on your body to do it's thing.

Many of the body fat percentages bandied about are actually towards the unhealthy side of the low scale, and require extreme attention to macro and micronutrition to maintain safely.

At what time of the day are you taking the body fat measurement? If right after waking up your body is highly dehydrated and this will give you a very high body fat %. Best time is end of the afternoon before dinner time (and before working out) since your body is properly hydrated.
  • I am doing it first thing in the morning. Good to know.

I know I'm not exactly wearing tight form fitting clothes but this is me at my scale saying 192 and 44.5% body fat. Look likely?

192??????????? You don't look 192... Either your scales are broken or you carry your weight very very well!!!
