Diet Question

I stopped weight training about 3 years ago, weighed 16 stone and was pretty fit. Just before this Christmas I was 21 stone. I have started jogging 2.5 miles 4 days a week, doing quite a bit of walking, and eating less than 800 clean cals a day. I have lost a stone in 5 weeks and I am feeling a lot stronger already. When I lose a bit more I want to look to start weight training again. At the moment I have been doing light weights with the upper half of my body just to wake my muscles up again.
What I want to ask is if at this moment in time if 800 cals a day is ok? I'm 5 weeks into eating like this and my muscles are shaping up again and I feel fine and have enough energy? Or am I doing more damage by doing this? Thanks

No 800 is quite low, calculate your TDEE (use fitnessfrog or google search for other calculators) and subtract 20% from it, that should give your calorie deficit.0

You mean eating 800 calories a day? or being 800 under?
If you're taking in 800 calories a day your going into starvation mode and losing muscle, that's %100 guaranteed.0 -
Eating 800 cals a day, 4 x 200 cal portions. Up to now I've been fine and haven't been tired or lethargic.0

Eating only 800 cals a day????
Why?
How many calories a day did you eat when you didn't exercise or care about calories?0 -

Have fun starving yourself. If you also lift/run/etc. on-top of eating 800 calories you're burning those away and literally taking in.... half of 800. You really need to read up on nutrition and go to Free Dieting Calculator and get a real assessment of how many calories you actually need before you end up hurting your body, which is what you're doing despite what you actually think.0 -
According to a TDEE calculator, 4104 cals a day is my daily expenditure.0

If I am correct you were 284 lbs at 21 stones so you are way way to low in calories. I am 12 and 4/7 stones I think and I eat 1230 calories. I am not sure the difference between clean and regular calories is but is seems way to low to me.0

800 calories a day is what a baby would eat! Don't be a fool! EAT MORE!0

Might be losing muscle but please don't say starvation mode...really???
This is why that myth rears it's ugly head so much. People keep saying it.0 -

actually that is what you can eat without losing weight.
minus some off that and you will lose weight.
Men should be eating at least 1800 calories a day and if you want to start lifting again better be more than that...I eat 1600 and I am a 41 year old woman.0 -
Okay, so im too low at the moment then. What about 2000 cals with high protein? Would this be better?0

Have you put your information into MFP?
How many calories does it tell you to eat?
I think that would be a better starting point than picking random numbers, like you seem to be doing.0 -

It isn't a myth. Read up on the REAL documented Minnesota Starvation Experiment. Not the crap you find in a blog.0
