Hi I am a 21 yr old female and I am 5 foot 6. Two weeks ago I weighed myself and I weighed 97 lbs. today I weighed myself and I weigh 100 even. I keep up with my 1200 calories and if I go over I make sure to burn it off. I have been doing so and have been successfully lost weight but now I am wondering as to how I have gained? I drink a lot of fluids water and vitamin water and diet sodas. I weigh myself only on Sunday mornings so why was this Sunday different? Did I really gain or is it water weight?

If you only weigh once a week it's mostly likely just a fluctuation, we all fluctuate everyday, sometimes by a few pounds. 3 days ago I was 2 pounds heavier than I am today, but I didn't lose 2 pounds in 3 days. If you weigh everyday you'll know exactly what your weight is and when you're just fluctuating. Of course not everyone likes weighing everyday, but it does solve this problem.
Even still, it's worth checking that you're weighing & measuring everything you eat and not just guessing. Plus if you're doing a new exercise routine your body tends to retain a bit more water at first.0 -
At 5'6"and 97/100lbs you NEED to gain weight.
Eat more.

Are you recovering from an ED? 5'6" and 97 lbs puts you well below a healthy BMI. Better talk with a physician that specializes in this.0

Oh bloody hell I didn't even notice that. Why on Earth are you still trying to lose weight?!0 -
You are 5 foot 6 and 97 lbs and trying to lose weight?! I really think you should get some professional help for this, not a healthy path to be going down.0

97 pounds???? Ninety-seven?????
Please reconsider your goals.0 -

Basically this.
Please, please, please be safe. If you are not already in the process of seeking help from a counselor, I would suggest doing so if you are worried about losing weight with how little you already weigh.0 -
You're too thin. You are starving your body. Why?0

Eat more, Exercise gain weight and be healthy. If you struggle to do this by yourself seek help from a professional.0

I think that it would be a really good idea to talk to your doctor about your goals. You're a bit too thin right now. If you're looking to be overall healthier, and maybe gain a bit of muscle, that's great! But 1200 calories at 97 pounds isn't going to get you there.0

So does every teen girl have an eating disorder now or just virtually all of the ones here?
OP- Get help.0 -
Why do you want to lose weight?
I would reconsider focusing on the scale if I were you. Your weight is very low. You may be compromising muscle if you are not eating enough; if you continue losing weight, you will find yourself looking less toned and less attractive. If you are trying to be healthy and toned and look better, I would change your goals.0 -
Is TOM approaching, aka, OTR, Aunt Flow. That will make you retain (granted, I would presume one of the many females that have responded may have already said that). Not saying that soda is evil but did you drink more of it recently?
Sweetheart, now that I read some of the other posts, please check some sites for your ideal weight... I just checked it for you, it says you could take on 20 to 30 more lbs. Please be careful ok.

Low side of BMI for you is 119. Gaining weight for you is a good thing. Maybe the 1200 calorie diet is more than you had been eating. Regardless, 97 is too low. I would seriously consider seeking help with gaining weight. Try and gain it in muscle mass by getting in some exercise. And remember, gaining weight with your stats is a good thing!0

Is this a joke? If not, get help please because you're uber underweight and appear to be suffering from an eating disorder.0

Oh my, OP. I'm 5' 6" as well and fall in the small-boned category. The lowest my weight has ever been was 112 - and I could count my ribs at that weight. I can't imagine ten pounds below that.
Honey you need to listen to the folks in this thread. They aren't trying to criticize you and neither am I. It is just very alarming that you are TRYING to lose more weight. The damage you are doing to yourself is going to have lasting repercussions throughout the rest of your life.
Please get help.0 -
I'm only 5'1 and the same weight as you and when I posted about wanting to lose weight, I was told I need to gain some so you certainly do being 5 inches taller than me! I've struggled with an eating disorder for 5 years and yes, it is hard to accept that you need to gain weight to be your healthiest, but it's so much better to be healthy and happy than to be sick and constantly worried about your weight.0

Oh no this isn't fake lol I just am curious as to what it can be to have caused me to gain weight. This is my first post cause I've been on a good routine this week just baffled me cuz I haven't done anything differently. I've had this account for a year lol.0

You've gained because you most definitely consumed less than 1200 calories to weigh 97 pounds at your height. In all likeliehood you consumed quite a bit less than 1000 calories per day. Consume more calories and you gain weight.0 -
You need to gain. You should not be on a 1200 calorie goal.0

OP, the weight gain is probably a good thing. I'm trying to hit 105-110 and I'm MUCH shorter than you (5'2). Perhaps you should talk to your doctor or a nutritionist. :flowerforyou:0

This. OP, you really should be gaining at least another 20 lbs. It's good you are getting some help, but you should at least make your account to maintain until that point. And start lifting weights, so when you do gain weigh back, you can add some muscle mass that you depleted with your ED. But like others said, the key is getting help.0
