I was so proud on Sat I ate breakfast and ran a mile in 12min 45 sec. I know that is not fast but a month ago it took me an hour.So I was very happy. These last couple of days I have not been able to eat breakfast , I drink a cup of coffe and off I go to workout. But I have noticed that I have not been able to run that fast, now my time is 14 min. Is it because I have not been eating breakfast?

  • That breakfast that you eat in the morning that you ran that 12 min/mile, depending on what you ate, it could have been the extra energy thatyou needed. I have to eat breakfast every morning if not, not a very nice person. Also I have gotten to the point, when I workout after work, I have to have a snack if not I get light headed. So breakfast might be that extra boost you need!

There is a good chance. The last time you ate was dinner the evening before so it's been quite a while since your body got any fuel. It's running on empty. Breakfast gives you the energy you need for the run.

And that is great. I'm a walker but do treadmill intervals and have notice lately that the running part is getting easier.

From my experience, workout out in the morning on an empty stomach I have had no energy, I usually scramble an egg and put it on toast for something on my stomach to workout to. Your body needs energy and if its been 8-9 hours since you ate, your body is runing on empty per say

I'm the same way. I have to eat 15-30 minutes before a workout. I limit to about 100 calories or thereabouts like a banana or a bar but I have to eat. There was one time that I just hydrated prior to workout with no food. I ran for about 5 miles. At around 5.2 mile mark, I started feeling lightheaded and my hands felt clammy with cold sweat. I had to hit the emergency stop button on the treadmill to get my bearings. That's when it dawned on me that I have not eaten food in 5 hours.

I agree with everyone here. That breakfast or that snack before the workout whatever time of day gives my body that extra kick to jumpstart the workout. I also workout longer, harder and sweat more when I eat prior to workouts. Go figure.

Definitely eat *something* to tell your body you're not fasting. Carbs are good, because they'll fuel your run.
