So hungry but I only have 48 calories left

I'm so tempted to go to the store and get something to eat but I already had dinner :(
Also, this is off topic but I don't want to make two new topics... I'm so scared to weigh myself. I wanna see if I'm actually losing weight on this diet but I can't bring myself to start weighing myself until I don't look like a whale anymore

how many calories are you eating a day?
  • how many calories are you eating a day?

1200 on days when I'm doing nothing but sitting and studying (like today, had a 6 page final exam to write)
more like 1500 when I'm out and about walking around and being active
maybe 1700 on days when I have a hip hop class and have to walk a couple of hours to get there

basically I just eat how much myfitnesspal food tracker tells me I can eat depending on how I've exercised but I'm super hungry on days like these

Based on a previous post, you're trying to stay under 1200 calories?

That's the the answer to your problems right there. At your height and weight, you should be eating way more than that.

You're also at a perfectly healthy BMI. Perhaps you should seek counseling for your weight issues. And also, eat more. If you're truly hungry, eat something.

Going by your profile pic you are no where near being a whale. One day going over goal isnt going to turn you into a whale over night.

Eat something low cal but filling and dont sweat if you go over cals for today. Just either write it off as a 'bad' day or just go under slightly tomorrow. Most likely you will still be eating at a deficit anyway.

Dont make yourself go hungry just to save on a few cals. Doing that makes people more prone to binging and quitting.

    Go eat :)

If the hunger is emotional, drink some hot o calorie or low calorie something, like fat free chicken broth..i find that if i. Mind my macros and make sure i balance out protien, fat and carbs i dont get "hungry"..

Do not fear the scales, you dont pass or fail based on the scales, you have information. I wear every morning with the intent to monitor, not do knee jerk reactions.

I don't have weight issues, I'm extremely small boned so my weight, even though it's not overweight, still makes me look pudgy and lots of people have been commenting on it and harassing me about it lately.

I'm just going by what this website is telling me to lose weight, that my goal for the day should be under 1200.

Thanks that makes sense, I think I have it set so I'm losing 2lbs a week or something anyway. I have it set at the highest so I guess eating something like a banana won't really mess up my goals in the long run

If you are hungry, then eat girl! And don't feel guilty about going over 1200! :) Remember that food is fuel for your body so if your body is hungry, then grab something small (like an apple) and eat. If you are still hungry, eat something else. I really think you should check out:
    http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/

Mfp had me set as 1200 in the beginning as well but it was so hard going to sleep with my stomach grumbling! :( Then I realised I was eating FAR too few calories! Increased to 1700 and kept losing weight :) So check out that link!

What are your settings at? If it's more than 1 lbs/ a week, it shouldn't be. At most it should be at .5/lbs a week.

As for the pudgy, if you incorporate a good strength training regimen, that will take care of the skinny fat. But you don't need to be dieting for that. That's all fitness based.

And I disagree that you don't have weight issues. You said yourself you are scared to weigh yourself. Talking that out with a counselor couldn't hurt. But that's just my opinion. I think first, you should be looking at the first two things.
  • Try sugar-free jelly pots - they have minimal calories in them but seem to satisfy the craving for something sweet...although I'm only on day 2 of my weight loss so I may not be the best person to give advice!!

I do not know your specific stats but I will hazard a guess that by the 1200cals allowance you are using the MFP default for your calorie allowance and probably have it set to the highest deficit for faster weight loss.

MFP default cal/macro calculations are pretty naff in my opinion and I recommend you read and implement the information provided in the links below...

When you have a lower BMI, you should have your goal set at 1/2 lb to 1 lb (Still high @ 1 lb!) a week. People that are obese or very heavy can do the 1-2 (2 still being aggresive!) Try some weight lifting, gaining muscle-- you will burn cals just sitting there. I'm a yo-yo er, but have lost weight in the past and have always found that if I'm not losing, upping my cals and definitely weight training kick up the weight loss. Check out some of the "Eat more, weigh less" message boards.

  • Thanks everyone I guess it was a bad idea to just assume MFP default settings would work with my body type, I'll check out your links and see how much I should really be eating! Really helpful, thanks so much

Since you are at a healthy weight, I think the advice to work on the shape of your body through exercise is a great choice. I have battled an ED for many years, some years it hardly rears it head and other years I am in a constant battle to keep my head in a healthy space concerning food. One way I keep myself healthy during those times is to focus on fitness instead of "dieting" and look at my diet as a way to most appropriately fuel my goals.

Set your deficit to a smaller deficit as you don't really need to lose weight and exercise. Even on that 6 hour paper writing day, take a 5 minute break every so often and do some yoga stretches.

No it's these girls that just really enjoy putting me down for some reason. I know I shouldn't let it get to me but after a while all the "your mom is so fat" jokes with my name instead, and calling me "porky pig" and "cottage cheese thighs" just makes me not want to eat anymore :( I live in Japan where everyone is so skinny too, and my friends that are from here have a thing for poking at my stomach and asking me how much weight I've gained. Not fun at all

Yeah I've been really stagnant lately, trying to get myself moving more now that I'm officially on vacation. I have a dance class tomorrow for an hour and a half and now that I have free time I'll start going to them more days, thanks for the input! :)

I'd find new friends or develop a thicker skin...

As for the jokes let them roll off...sounds like they are actually jealous of you....I know that their culture is different from ours but to be frank I would look at them grab my nice butt and say you just jelly my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and yours doesn't. Smile and eat the food.

I bet they are sick of hearing the guys all comment on how cute and/or pretty you are because you are different from what they are used to...

Is it a cultural thing? If not then I think you need to tell them to lay off you, or get new friends. That doesn't sound nice at all.

Firstly, it is okay to go over slightly one day. A better way of looking at things (imo, at least) is to make sure you meet your weekly goal. That way, if you go over on a 1200kcal day by say 100kcals, you can make sure you only eat 1600kcals on a 1700kcals day and still keep to your weekly goal. Makes calorie counting much less stressful.
It should be something you enjoy doing. It took me a while to get to this point, but you shouldn't find MFP too restrictive. You will have more chance of success if you enjoy it.

Secondly, I have found cuppa soups to be amazing when you need a low calorie snack to fill you up. I love Ainsley Harriet soups. Their Shezuan Hot & Sour soup is only 63 calories and it fills you up! They have loads of other flavours, all with calories between 60-90ish (I think there was only one flavour I tried that was more than 100kcals). I made this discovery a couple weeks ago and have LOVED it. :)

Also, as you have a perfectly healthy BMI, try not to worry too much about the scales. I am the same, healthy BMI but I don't like the way I look as I have tiny rolls of fat around my tummy and bingo wings I want to get rid of. What I do is concentrate on exercise and weight lifting. Use a measuring tape instead of the scales. The last thing you want is to end up with an eating disorder, which will be a whole new problem.

    Good luck! :)

    This.

I am overweight, and people do mock me. I love my body, and the changes I'm making are for myself and nobody else. Love yourself, and don't be friends with people who only look to put you down. <3

I know exactly what you mean. I am originally from Sri Lanka, and when I go back people also comment on how much I have 'put on'. The last time I went back one of my friends gave my bingo wings a squeeze and said 'OMG, you have put on so much weight'. My BMI was only slightly over 25 then, and I was still considered small by my friends in the UK.

I know it is difficult not to let it get to you. It is almost a cultural thing where even all my relatives have to comment on 1. my weight and 2. my complexion, every time they see me. I broke down and cried the day after my engagement party because my dad was telling me how big I looked in the photos and how I needed to lose weight before the wedding.

However, don't let what they say make you starve yourself. Sounds like all you need is a small deficit and some time with some weights. As you don't have much to lose, try to eat a bit more and do a bit more exercise, so you don't end up skinny fat. And do read posts on the forums here. They helped keep me motivated and educate me more on fitness and nutrition. Good luck!!!!

I'm losing fat on about 1600-1800 a day, doing strength workouts 3 times a week and one or two session of HIIT depending on my mood. Down 3lbs in two weeks!
