Can fatty foods make you maintain, even if you budget?

Hello -
I am wondering if anyone else has had an issue with maintaining instead of loosing because of fatty foods?
Every night i eat 1 cup of icecream that is 80 cals per 1/2 cup, with 2 tbsp sugar free chocolate syrup and 2 tsp PB2 dehyrdated peanut butter (45 cals per 2 tbsps).
I budget this into my 1200-1300 calorie day diet. I have been having trouble loosing significantly in the last 2 months. I am wondering if this could have something to do with it.

Objectively speaking, no I don't think they can. However, with calorie dense foods, any mis-measuring is HUGE, might that be the case?0
-
Let me guess...
You're using measuring spoons instead of weighing it?0 -
Unfortunatly, no. I measure everything. I have like 3 sets of measuring cups lol.0
-
Nope, never had that problem.
Do you measure with a food scale? When I measure PB2 with a tablespoon, it usually ends up being almost 50% more than the weight it should be in grams. This might seem like a little bit, but it adds up over time!
Get a food scale! ^__^ You can just use your serving dish to measure and don't have to wash as many measuring cups/spoons~0 -
How do you weigh ice cream? I do have a scale....0

It's not the fat. That means that there's something going on elsewhere with your diet. Most likely, you're not measuring correctly. Are you exercising and eating back those calories (could be an issue with overestimating burns)? How's your water intake? Begin any new exercise routines lately (water retention)?
There are a number of variables that could be the cause, but it's not tied to dietary fat.0 -
Looks like you are pretty close to goal weight, so the difference between maintaining and losing is smaller, so your deficit is getting smaller and it takes longer to see changes.
I don't know for sure if you nighttime snack is the reason for stalling, but you could experiment and see...
Sometimes your body gets to a comfortable place and holds onto weight more stubbornly. You could try eating in a 8-10 hr window, you still get 12-1400 cals per day but eat them all 10am-6pm. Sometimes those strategies can encourage your body to drop fat. It doesn't want to be thin, it wants to survive0 -
On the serving size, it will say something like "1/2 cup (80g)"0

most of the time it'll list a measuring cup size and a weight. Just put the ice cream on a food scale, you can even keep it in the bowl, just put the empty bowl on there, tare it to zero, and start spooning in ice cream until you see it hits the grams total.0 -
Weighing foods is the most accurate (I struggle to do the same since I can't weigh what is given at work for meals so I have to estimate)0

I get about 30% of my daily calories from fat - which works out to anywhere from 85-105 grams of fat. I didn't have any problem losing weight and haven't had any issues maintaining that loss the last two years. Fat makes me happy and keeps me full.
Do you weigh your food? One cup of ice cream by measuring cup is A LOT more than one cup by weight on a food scale. People tend to pack ice cream into the measuring cup and press air out, resulting in a larger serving. In fact, ice cream was my biggest surprise when I switched from using measuring cups to using a food scale. The scale is much more accurate!0 -

If the scale is digital, and if its a good scale, it'll have a "tare" function. You put the bowl on the scale, press tare so it goes back to zero, and put the ice cream in.0 -

The serving size on the ice cream's nutritional panel should be presented in both cups and grams. Use the grams for your food scale.0 -
I get 50% or so of my calories from fat (about 18% from protein, the rest from carbs), and find it easiest to lose weight at these ratios. It's possible that the sugar could be influencing your weight loss. http://authoritynutrition.com/6-reasons-why-a-calorie-is-not-a-calorie/ explains sugar in three of the six points. REALLY great article.0

In Canada, it's in cups and millilitres, not cups and grams. 1 mL of ice cream /=/ 1 g of ice cream.0 -
HAHA i'm so guilty of packing as much as possible in the cup.
I'm going to try the scale idea. Seems like a good place to start.
As far as water goes... plain water i get around 60oz a day. (outside of tea and coffee)
I'm doing high protein so 70g plus a day.
I don't eat back excercise calories.
I do 6 hours per week. 4 days walking at high incline(the treadmill says 500ish burned, but i know thats more probably than i burned) and then 2 days weights.0 -

put in on a scale in a cup. Well, put the cup first, zero the entry, then put ice cream in.
measuring cups and spoons are terribly inaccurate and probably the reason why you haven't been losing. Weigh the peanut butter and syrup too. Syrup is not calorie free just because it's sugar free, so be careful about that too.0 -
Be prepared for a shock. I used to always use measuring cups and the first time I weighed it out, it was nearly DOUBLE the serving suggestion.0

If it gets me results. I'm fine with that!!! I'm ready!0

My findings -
Dairy was pretty spot on with measuring cups but my oats, trail mix and PB2 were about 2/3 of the measuring cup size.
Very excited to see my new results doing this....i probably was coming in about 1400-1500 calories a day before.0 -
