Today I begin the Induction Phase of the Atkins Diet. I am a newbie, never having tried this diet/lifestyle before. I had an Atkins Protein Shake in French Vanilla for breakfast and two hard-boiled eggs for a mid-morning snack. I am not even hungry for lunch! So I guess this means so far, so good!
I am curious to know if anyone here has tried the Atkins Diet before, and what your experience was like? Weight loss results? Have you been able to keep it off by continuing the Atkins lifestyle? Thanks in advance for your replies - I appreciate it.

I lost around 70 lbs. on the Atkins diet around 10 years ago. I hit a stall where I didn't lose any weight for over 2 months and I fell off the wagon.
The diet works but I think it's really hard to make it a lifestyle change.0 -
I lost 40 lbs in about 8 months following the Atkins OWL rungs and eliminated my constant cravings and hunger pangs. After a good six months of maintenance I gradually upped my carbs even more and am now eating around 200 - 240 carbs
gross. If I were to stop running & lifting regularly however I'd probably gain on this many carbs. As I increased my activity my insulin resistance definitely improved.
Good luck! Atkins is just one of many ways to lose weight and was actually a last resort for me. Who knew I'd love eating so much fat!0 -
I didn't follow Atkins specifically, but did eat low carb for several months introduced more carbs over time (but still paid attention to calories/carbs) and maintained within about a 5 pound range from my lowest weight. I liked it, I learned a lot about food overall, and I felt better and had more energy. I don't know why it finally "clicked" for me, probably because it was honestly easier cutting out or limiting certain foods than calorie counting. I think a lot of people avoid fats to lose weight so they may buy whatever "low fat" or "fat free" food they can find but never realize that in place of fat is usually sugar (so it still has calories in it). I found cutting carbs was easier than lowering fat intake for overall calorie deficit. I felt more full and satisfied. I liked it, but Atkins or low carb doesn't work for everyone's food preferences.
I lost about 90 lbs the first go around and maintained until I got pregnant.0 -
Over 56 lbs lost, most in the first 6 months which was in 2010.0
