no weight loss giving up

Hi, I've already posted before but I'm just so down. I am 5"4 and am at a normal weight but I gained about 10 lbs ever since I started college and would like to get rid of it. However, I have been trying to eat better and exercise. I have not seen any weight loss on the scale of measurements wise. I am losing hope and feel like giving up. On weekends, I have occasional splurges, which may be why I'm not losing weight, but I thought occasional binges were okay? Also, I have omelette every morning, and am not sure if the oil is also a part in making me not lose weight. Do I have to eat completely clean in order to lose the weight? Is 3 weeks abnormal to not be seeing any results?

    Weight loss is about a calorie deficit. Period. You can eat 'better' (whatever that means) and exercise until you fall on your face from exhaustion, but if you're not eating at an appropriate calorie deficit for your age/height/weight, you won't lose weight. It also doesn't matter what foods you're eating, as long as you stay within your allotted calories. Measure out portion sizes and hit your calorie goal. Simple as that :)

    Also-is your diary accurate? Why are you eating under your calorie goal? That does nothing but lead to trouble down the road.

    You have to be completely honest with yourself. Do you log everything? Do you measure/weigh your food so you know you have the appropriate serving sizes? An occasional splurge is okay, binges are not. The splurges on the weekend could definitely be contributing to not losing weight. It depends on how crazy you're going. Are your splurges one meal/treat, or does it turn into 2 full days of "bad" eating? (I can be guilty of this :wink: )

    Also, are you eating enough? I haven't checked to see if I can view your diary, but if you aren't eating enough, you can be slowing down your metabolism. Are you exercising regularly? If you're new to exercise, you could be building up some muscle - this wouldn't show up as weight loss, but you will be getting smaller.

    Healthy oils/fats are important, so if you're having a smaller serving and it's worked into your daily calories, having some with your omelette is fine.

    If it's only been 3 weeks, you need to not be so hard on yourself. It's not a fast process, if you're doing it the healthy way. And even if the weight isn't coming off as fast as you'd like, remember that eating healthily & working out are so good for your whole body. You may not see all the changes, but they are happening.

    ETA: Ok, I looked, and if that's really all you're eating in a day, you are definitely not eating enough. I would recommend speaking to someone in your life that you trust about your eating habits.

    You're already in normal weight and you're trying to lose 10lbs. 10 vanity pounds. It will take a lot longer than 3 weeks.

    You need to account for everything you put in your mouth. Account for the oil you use for your omelete. Record the splurges. Yes splurges are fine, but if you go over board you'll be in 'maintenance' for the week!

    My scale didn't move for 6 weeks. Careful tracking really is necessary. And, if you give up now, you can't possibly hope to lose the weight. Giving up = definite failure. Keep at it = hope for success.

    Doesn't take too many "splurges" or "binges" to destroy what progress you've (presumably) made during the week. If you're doing this every weekend, you'll never get anywhere.

    Occasional splurges are okay, but only if you still average a calorie deficit. For example, if on a day to day basis you have calorie deficit of 200 calories, then on both Saturday and Sunday you have a surplus of 500, your average for the week is going to NO deficit. You'll be at maintenance. Accurate tracking is essential if you really want to see what's going on.

    The oil may be part of the problem if you not measuring it and logging it properly, but not because its oil, only because if you aren't logging it you aren't taking into account the calories and making sur eyou have a deficit. You don't have to eat completely clean to lose weight, you have to create a consistent calorie deficit. That means being very careful to measure and log everything that you eat, and to have an awareness of how many calories you actually need.

    You admitted you were a normal weight. So either you are trying to get to the low end of "normal", or you are actually trying to get to the "underweight" category.

    If you are trying to get to the lower end of normal, 3 weeks without loss is not really abnormal, when you are close to your ideal weight it is harder to lose and takes longer.

    If you are trying to force your body to weigh less than what is healthy, it will resist. You can still get there if you are careful to have a calorie deficit, but it will be difficult and you really SHOULDN'T do it anyway.

    This^^^ At 5'4" and 121 lbs, you DON'T NEED TO LOSE 10LBS!!! You need to be healty and have a healty relationship with food.

    I don't think it is just the 121 and wants to lose 10 pounds that makes this sound unhealthy. I'm 5'3" and want to get to around 111. I was there last summer. The unhealthy part is the diary being way under and the barrage of posts being frustrated with it all. Really, consider doing this in a healthier way. If you mess up your metabolism at 19, you'll regret it down the road. Don't let this be the start of yoyo dieting.

    Agree! I'm 5ft, 6in and my maintenance range is 117lbs-120lbs. But, I eat around 2,200 calories a day too.
