predetermined to be fat?

I've heard some stuff about how our bodies have a "set weight" that, no matter how much working out/dieting we do, your body will want to return to. How do you all feel about that? Are the overweight people that are now thin fulfilling their thin set weight? Are average girls who are 5'5 and 140 destined to always return to 140, whether or not they make it all the way down to their goal of 110?

Thinking about this depresses me, because I have a set goal in mind and I'm worried that once reaching my goal, no matter what I do my body will naturally want to return to my set weight...any thoughts?

I don't buy it. As long as we continue to adjust our caloric intake to match our body weight and activity level we should be fine. The only way I see returning to a previous weight is to return to our previous diet and exercise patterns. As I'm sure you've heard all over this board, this is a lifestyle change. As long as we treat it as such, we will succeed :)

I think if you want to keep your body at your goal weight you have to make adjustments. If you lose all the weight you wanted and then go back to your old eating habits then your body will probably gain all the weight you lost.

Calories in vs calories out. It is proven science. Not some made up mumbo jumbo. The lifestyle we had made us the weight we are. After 173lbs lost its easy to see how poorly I treated my body.

Just keep what your doing and you will be fine. Don't stress the number. This is a lifestyle change. Eat right and exercise and you will be healthy and happy.
