Depends on the area, food preferences etc but the restaurants in London are as good as anywhere - might need to book ahead though dude...

Taking a vacation to London this summer and looking for hotel and restaurant recommendations.

We are going in March and are staying at a Hilton property (do not remember if it is a hilton or doubletree) on the edge of Hyde Park. We use Hilton Points so we are staying for free, other wise there is a good chance we would not be going at all, that place is wicked expensive. Even more expensive than Paris.

Trip Adviser is the best place to get this kind of advice. There is always going to be a few people that are not going to be happy no matter what, and one or two that are trying to get a Nobel Prize in literature with their reviews, you just got to weed through all that crap to see what the normal people say.

I stayed at The Trafalgar when I went, the rooms were small but I assume most of Europe is like that? It was pretty conveniently located though, I was able to walk most places I planned on seeing and took the Metro to the rest. I just stopped at whatever restaurants we happened to be walking past and I wasn't disappointed.

London has a wicked tube system (although not 24 hrs). Stay out of the centre and pay far less and eat in better restaurants.

Am there quite a lot so if you want/need any specifics PM me and I'll be happy to help if I can...

You'll find more responses if you post this on www.yelp.com. Here are some spots we visited in London last year:

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Pub (145 Fleet St, London EC4A 2BU), Awesome bar 3 min walk from St Paul’s Cathedral. Oliver Goldsmith, Mark Twain, Alfred Tennyson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and G.K. Chesterton are all said to have been 'regulars'. The fish & chips and shephard's pie were both good and inexpensive.

We just drank beer at these two spots in Old Hampstead, but the food smelled awesome: Holly Bush in Hampstead Village (22 Holly Mount London NW3 6SG) or The Flask (14 Flask Walk London NW3 1HE)

Pain Quotidien. (128 Wilton Road London SW1V 1JZ), Hours 8am-9pm Great spot for breakfast. The food is more French than English. Prices weren't too high, but service was a little slow.

Gordon’s Wine Bar (47 Villiers Street, just up from Embankment tube station), Dimly lit, cavernous wine bar recommended by Rick Steves. The charcuterie was amazing. If you don't eat here you must at the very least stop in for a glass of wine!!!

(The Churchill Arms - 119 Kensington Church Street London W8 7LN) - Amazing Thai food, but this place gets packed so make a reservation or be prepared for an hour long wait at least.

Hotel rooms in London are $$$. I would recommend using Hotwire to find your hotel. We knew which neighborhood we wanted so we just looked at five star hotels with at least 90% recommendation in the neighborhood we desired. We ended up finding a room at the Intercontinental for $200/night that was right across the street from the tube so we were able to take the tube from the airport and travel around the city. If you are looking for something a little less fancy you can find 3 star and 4 star hotels for $80-$150/night.
