WHAT IS SODIUM

someone explain to me what sodium is... isn't large amounts bad for you? doesn't it make you bloat? I'm really not sure but MFP has my goal at 2300...and I have no idea what it does

Sodium is a chemical element that makes your heart and other muscles function (among other things). I would definitely continue to eat at least 1500 mg/day of it.

The sodium they track is salt. It is hidden in a lot of processed foods and is believed to be a contributory factor in a number of diseases, particularly heart disease.

That is, *excess* consumption is believed to be a contributing factor: Our bodies need some sodium to survive.

Sodium in dietary terms is what we call "salt".

That is just because you don't have a comparison. 2300mg is a restricted diet and 1500mg is a very low sodium diet.
