Hi, Some advice please. I am 6ft tall and a bloke. I weigh 280 lbs or 20 stone in old terms. I have been going to the gym for 3 week now. I do around 75 minutes on the tread mill at 3.5 mph and on incline 4. I then do 30 minutes session on the weights. I do this 4 days a week. I thought I would eat the same food everyday for the 3 weeks. I eat 1 banana in the morning, then around 3 pm I have 4 weetabix with a banana chopped and added with around quarter pint semi skimmed milk. For tea I have a cupful of brown rice, 1 chicken breast, small tin chopped pineapple and half tin of garden peas..I have one cup of sugar free coffee a day, and drink water and 1 pint of diet coke a day. At 8 pm I have a tin of mixed fruit in juice not syrup. I have worked it out I am eating 1500 calories a day. So minus the 6 or 700 calories I am burning at the gym I should have a calorie intake of around around 900 calories a day. Now the thing is in 3 week I have lost not one pound. I have been truthful about what I have eaten and what exercise I have done. So can some one tell me what I am doing wrong. Thank You very much for any reply given.

for a man your size you calorie intake is low. Bananas are hi in sugar. It sounds like you need a lot more protein and vegetables in your diet and less carbs. the protein will also give you energy. try and egg white omelet in the morning a tuna or chicken mixed with field greens and 1TBs of olive oil and vinegar. for dinner have grilled chicken or lean beef or fish and a veggie and salad. you will lose 5 lbs in one week0

I think your body has gone into starvation mode because you are eating too little and it is storing all the fat for emergency. I am 5ft 5 weigh just under 11.5 stone and my daily calorie intake is about 1350 (to lose weight). You need to eat more. Use the myfitnesspal tools and that way you will have an indication of how many calories you need to eat.0

For someone your size I would say to intake at least 2000 calories a day, probably more like 2200-2300 with the amount you work out and you will see results fairly quickly0

I think the only thing you're doing wrong is relying too much on the scale to show your progress. They're unreliable little devils. Are you weighing yourself every day or once a week or what?
You're a male and not small, so in my non-professional opinion you should be eating more calories. Especially since you're burning a lot as well. You're not looking to starve yourself and this isn't a race. You're making a change that you can live with. So don't be afraid to up your calories by about 200-300 at the very least, you'll still be in a deficit and the weight will come off.
There's a lot of trial and error involved in weight loss. Everyone hits road blocks. But you seem to be working hard at it and if you keep it up you'll see improvements.
Waffled on there a bit love.0 -

This was the first time I had weighed myself in 3 weeks. Got quite a shock when they were in same place. That much so I went to the chemist to get weighed. I would have swore they were broken. But no same on both scales. I always thought as they say. Eat less & Move more and it will work.Guess it don't! You see these big people on these weight loss hospital programs that are put on a 1000 calories a day and they can hardly move. But yet the weight drops of them. Very confusing I had a works accident and put on 5 stone in 5 years because I could not get about and exercise. Now I can move about and exercise again I hit this wall. Oh well everyone I shall heed your advice and see what happens over the next month. Thank You0

Can you make your food diary public so you can get some more solid advice?0

I agree with everyone on here.. you are not eating enough at all! The whole weight loss thing works like this... You need food to convert to energy in order to do daily things, if you arent even eating enough calories to cover your normal daily activities your body goes into starvation mode! Now if you are working out on top of that and still not eating enough you are further plummeting your body into survival mode! It is going to take everything you eat and convert it to fat just so you can stay alive.
My advice to you is eat more food! 6 small meals a day! A man your size should probable be eating close to 1800 cals a day (at rest). Oh and dont forget to rest... your body needs to regenerate some energy lost after a work out... anyways... more water, more food (healthy low calorie food) and don't rely on a scale for affirmation of a healthy lifestyle!0 -
dont get disillusioned by the scale! its a lifestyle change not a race, however long its takes if you are determined it will work. you do need some guidance, abut food and diet. you will see results if you stick with it! we are all on the same numbers mission!0
