Scale vs. Tape (PICS)

I have spent the last three months stuck in that place that nobody on this journey likes to visit, the dreaded PLATEAU! Like I have done this entire journey, I did a lot of research and talked to those who have been successful on this journey, adjusted my cals up and then back down, changed my workout routine and nothing seemed to work. On Christmas I received a gift from my fiancé, an XBOX game called UFC Personal Trainer. I have loved it. For the past month I have been doing that five days a week, yoga four times a week, and as of two weeks ago I started jogging (albeit slow) three times a week. I was determined to break that plateau. So, after four weeks of increased training and slightly decreased cals (1700) I … did not lose ANYTHING! Are you freaking kidding me right now? I cannot tell you unbelievably frustrated I was. I felt so damn defeated! Will I ever hit my goal weight? Will all the sacrifices pay off? Normally, in the past, this is where I give up. I put away all the exercise equipment, DVD’s, and head to the kitchen to feed my sadness. However, that is not what I do now. I know I have been successful on this journey; getting past previous plateaus, sickness, injury, emotional baggage, school, family, etc and I know I can and will get past this. So, the new and improved Jenn puts on her workout clothes and pops in the first P90X3 workout. I know I need more cardio, especially with the more I lose, so I jumped on this “Beach Body” bandwagon in hopes of kick starting my losses again. The first workout left me breathless, red faced, sweaty and cursing like a sailor. How many times can a person say, “You have GOT to be kidding me?!” in one workout? Take it from me, A LOT! After I was done with my workout I took four updated pictures of myself. When I looked at them I kept asking myself, “Who is this woman”? I have lost 105.4 lbs but I still see the 321 lbs woman in the mirror most days. I have always been big so it’s surreal to think of me as another other than that. It is odd not only seeing the smaller me but being called “skinny”, “tiny”, etc. That will take some getting used to!! I put my new current picture next to my before picture and it is mind blowing. *I* did that. That was my hard work, my dedication. I decided to compare my recent picture next to my 100 lbs lost picture, just to see if you can see a difference in 5 lbs. Well, let me tell you what I was dumbfounded. I quickly grabbed the tape measure and put in my recent measurements. I HAVE LOST EIGHT INCHES in the past month. E-I-G-H-T! My defeat quickly turned into pride! Not all success is measured on the scale and dammit, after almost two years on this journey, I still need to be reminded of that! The most amazing part of this whole night was not the eight inches lost, not the realization that I am succeeding, but hearing my fiancé brag about my losses (and gains) to his brother. That was worth more than a loss on the scale any day. I am on this journey to get healthy, fit and strong for ME but knowing that I am doing so AND making the people around me proud … PRICELESS. The moral of my blog … The scale can be a lying ***** sometimes! The scale does not measure your success, only gives you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity! USE the tape! Your success is inspiring change in others and that is powerful! MOST IMPORTANTLY - Never give up because you are worth it!!!

Thank you for this!!! I get so frustrated when I don't see results on the scale but I have to remember there's more to it than that!! I've been good in the past about not letting the scale deter me but lately it's been hard.
Congratulations on everything you've accomplished!0 -
I LOVE LOVE, LOVE THIS POST! IT MAKES IT ALL worth it! Thank you for reminding me that even though the scale isn't budging my waist line might be shrinking!

Congratulations!
I just went through the same revelation – I was stuck since November at the same weight, 1 pound up and down, and got so frustrated. Then got my measuring tape – I lost 2 inches off my hips and 1.5 inch off my waist!!!0
