Is my size shrinking faster as I lose more weight?

Hi,

I have lost 17.2 kg now and I notice that every kilo I lose now is very noticeable, much more then the first kilos I lost. At least that's my impression. This implies that the relationship between x (kilos lost) and y (body measurement) is non-linear (accelerating).

I guess these are the reasons:
1. Muscles are appearing now that I am nearer to my end goal, which changes my look
2. Geometrically, a certain volume of fat lost in a smaller person changes the size/volume of this person relatively more than a larger person. So every kilo of fat (I think it's about 2.5 liter of volume) that you lose counts harder as you lose more. Imagine an onion: the first peels are big, the peels under it are smaller and smaller.
3. I think you start losing fat on different places as you lose more. I think I lose a lot in my belly now, which is quite noticeable.

Anyways, it's cool. I love it! Though I also have to get used to my new body shape. Luxury problem of course, but if you've been losing I think you know what I am talking about.

By the way, I also notice this effect of accelerated improvement in my exercise. I am getting better quickly, and I've been running for many months now. I think there is a linear relation with my weight loss. but other factors explain why my progress is much quicker. Anyways, that's another story.

I hope that makes sense. What is your experience? What do you think about this?

    Its linear 1kg lost at 100kg is 1% 1kg lost at 50k is 2% the lighter you are the greater the difference!

    Yeah, but the flip side is that as you get smaller each incremental lb/kg is more difficult to lose.
  • Indeed MoreBean13, at first it just melted of because of the basic lifestyle changes I made that weren't all that difficult to sustain, now I have to go much further and the weight loss is quite slow, a few hundred grams per week. So it's nice that almost every small loss is noticeable.

    At first it took 3-4 kgs before I would notice a real difference.

    Someone on here once used the paper towel analogy:

    When you take one paper towel off of a full roll, it doesn't make much difference in the size of the roll.

    If you take one paper towel off when the roll is almost empty, the roll gets smaller faster because that one towel is wrapped around a few times.

    Weight loss is kind of the same. Congrats on your success so far!

    Good analogy! Nice way to visualise what's happening!

    The fact that weight loss is so much more visible encourages me to keep on going! I run more kilometres and eat more healthy. In this way it's a self fulfilling prophecy as well (in part) :)
