Which food scale to buy?

I have no idea how to choose a food scale. I can read amazon reviews, but the one thing I can't figure out is what capacity I need? Like, is a 2lb max enough? Is 11lb max necessary? I'm not even clear on which parts of my food to weigh or how to use that information. But I figure I'd better get a scale if I want to log accurately. Thanks for any information or suggestions you can provide!

It entirely depends on what you plan on weighing with it. I routinely weigh 3-5lb roasts, so a 2lb max wouldn't be enough for me. Things you need in a scale: it should be digital, it should have a tare function, and it should have a precision of 1/100 of an ounce or better, at least that's my suggestion0

Ah, that's exactly what I was wondering. I would probably also need to weigh whole recipes or pieces of meat. Thanks!0

Honestly the higher the max the better because you wont be weighing just the food. Mine has a 6.6 lb capacity which comes in handy because I'll stick a mixing bowl on it and add as I go for all kinds of stuff. so the bowl plus each ingredient (most recently was a double batch of muffins).
I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-3831BL-Biggest-Kitchen-Platform/dp/B001DQOEIE
it works well, I feel that it is accurate. my only complaint is its kind of a pain to keep clean My next one will be a flat surface scale rather than one with a weighing platform0 -
I got a cheap 20 - 25 dollar one at walmart. it works awesomely. ounces grams lbs kilos and a tare button. Good for food and medicinal marijuana.:)0

I just got one at Walmart for about $20. It is awesome!! It will hold up to 11lbs. Now, mind you, that sounds like a crazy amount but I wouldn't get one that is 2 lbs. We have nice plates that we've discovered weigh almost a pound each (thanks to our new scale!) and we can still use the tare option when weighing using our plates.
I've been pleasantly surprised at how close we've actually been estimating but I like having the scale to make it more accurate.
The one I got at Walmart is battery operated, has a glass shelf for the food and says EK5055 on the front. It was in the kitchen aisle

this is the one that I just bought. So far so good. I love having a scale. I got it at Kohls. After sale and coupons, I paid 23.000 -

I have one I bought on Amazon. It weighs in grams, kilograms, ounces or pounds and has a 12 pound capacity. I often use the grams setting. It can be a bit of a pain to clean around the display and one person who reviewed the scale said they placed a piece of clear packaging tape over the display area to keep it clean.
