PLEASE HELP ME

Hello, i am a member here but didnt want to ask this question as me.

I have been taking 10-12 codeine and ibuprofmn tablets a day for about 2 months (the over the counter 12.8mg codeine ones) and i have done this to help me feel relaxed and be able to sleep which has worked but im now weaning myself off them. I dont want a load of abuse, i just want to know if these tablets will stop my losing weight? They make me constipated so i also take laxatives from time to time. I have lost a small amount of weight so far but that may be water. Will this have any impact on my weight loss? will i lose more when i stop taking them? this is a genuine question and i am reaching out for help. Thank you.

Totally not a doctor but I did get probed by one earlier this week.
With that said, I can think of no reason why IB with codeine would impact fat loss. They may appear to impact weight loss because of the constipation and water gain issues, but this would not impact fat gain or loss.
My guess would be you've probably lost a little more fat than is showing up now, but that will normalize as you wean off the pills.

    Happy losing!

It's not about the meds you take, although like codeine, they can stop you up, which they obviously have. BTW, here in the USA codeine is never OTC, it's by prescription only. There are some major side effects too:

I'm not you and everyone is different but I'd stop taking it immediately. To get to sleep people are using natural sedatives like melatonin, etc.

As far as weight loss, here at MFP we believe it's calories in, calories out. Exercise to get yourself down and watch the cats. GL.

    Have a big hug.

In general over the counter medications should not give any issues but as one who has issues with aspirin in pills and in foods, it can cause all kinds of problems.

I applaud your efforts to get off these things on your own. I would suggest you ask a medical professional for help because I have ended up nutritionally compromised because of needing to avoid aspirin substances in foods and do not want this to happen to anyone else. Unfortunately not all medics are up on aspirin related food issues. Please try to find other ways of dealing with tension and to help you relax. Please contact me directly if you would like.

    Good luck

You'll want to taper off of those. Stopping all at once can bring on withdrawal symptoms.

I'd think you'd probably be more energetic without them, so your weight-loss efforts would probably come out better off them. Best of luck! And get professional help if you get stuck. Those things are terribly addictive :( Hopefully you caught it soon enough.
