Hello guys

Hello there, my name is Ashley and I am 21 years old. I have been wanting to lose weight and get into shape almost all my life but it really hit me that I was over weight when I had teachers and people in my high school asking me if I was pregnant my sophomore year. I remember I went home crying. That day sucked a lot but now that I look back on it, I am kinda glad I went through that because now I use that to motivate me to get fit. I am originally from Ohio but in April 2013 moved out to California. I started working out at the gym on July 15th, 2013 and started off weighing 154 pounds. Today I can finally say I weigh 140 pounds. I have lost 14 pounds so far and I feel so much stronger and I am starting to see a smaller me that was eager to get out. I find it harder to eat healthy over exercising, not that I hate eating healthy it is more of not being able to afford to. Now it is getting really late here and I need to go to bed. I hope you guys enjoy reading this. Good night.

    Hello Ashley,

That is hard to hear someone ask you if you are pregnant when you are not. It is great that you are taking that experience in a postive way instead of being negative about it. I will def add you and keep in touch with you throughout our journeys.

Thank you. It was hard because I am not even ready for sex yet so the thought of someone asking me that, at the time I did take it negative because a lot of people at my school were getting pregnant and I took it bad because I didn't want to be labeled as the girl who got pregnant while still in high school. I am kinda old fashion in a way and want to wait for that special someone. I added you back. :)

  • While I am not a young woman on the road to fitness, just a middle aged husband/father of two trying to do right by me and my family. I "was" over weight from puberty to right before I joined the Army at 24 years old. Those years were hard and now I see my eldest daughter (about to turn 10) start wading into those same unfriendly waters of being over weight.

Add me. Not an some guy who has been there. Not as someone who got into great shape and then lost it all. Not even as someone who "knows" the right things to do, but was to happy just sitting on the couch and letting apathy = getting fat. Just as another person new to getting back on the right track to fitness.

I did not make a New Years Resolution to lose weight, but I did take on a motto for the year... Intention is not Execution! I think we all know the road to hell is paved with good intentions. We may have the thought process of being a better friend, significant other, parent, worker, whatever but intention is never enough. Movement is not execution either, it is just movement. Intention + Movement + Direction = Execution. Most people coming to MFP have taken it a step past intention. MFP can help you find your direction. We ALL now just need to stick with it and move out :)

    Thanks everyone. :)

@TapouTFTW - I hope you can help your daughter out before she becomes overweight. My advice, it is the perfect time right now to get her motivated but in a different way. I would encourage her to go outside and play more. That alone will help her a lot. Make sure she eats her fruits and vegetables too so she will grow. She isn't done growing yet so you got to do everything you can for her so she doesn't grow up to feel bad about herself. I am sure you already know all of this but that is my advice for her. If you go outside and play with her too and eat healthy with her, it will not only help her but help you too. Go for walks, chase each other, have her help you cook, etc.
