my recipes

Does the app save the recipe you entered to determine the calories per serving, what i mean is does it save the recipe itself so that you can see what you have added and the proportions. you have to enter it all to begin with, it would be handy to have it saved so you can use it when cooking.

  • let me try this again. when you enter the ingredients for a recipe to determine how many calories per serving it is, does mfp hold onto the recipe itself somewhere so you can access the actual recipe itself when you are cooking? i think this would be great so that when you find a recipe, say on line, that is low cal AND tasty enough that you wanna try it again it could be saved on your device to come back to later.

I think you are asking if the recipe calculator saves your recipe calculations so you can go back and look at your list of ingredients and measurements? If so, yes it does. It is great! I use it all the time!

On the website, under Food click the Recipes tab, all your recipes that you have created will be listed there by most recent. Click on the recipe to view the list of ingredients and amounts.

On the mobile app, click Settings, click My Foods and Exercises, choose My Recipes. Again your created recipes will be listed by most recent.

You can edit amounts or ingredients on either one. Especially when weighing ingredients, the amounts may change slightly from time to time. Plus I am always changing and substituting different ingredients so it is great to be able to edit my original recipe to fit my current variation.

If you do edit your original entered recipe, there are two things that are good to know:
1.You may need to update the serving info - Your serving amounts may slightly change with variations so if it is a recipe (like soup) that you would measure or weigh, you may want to do that again. I write my serving size in the title. Example: Potato soup - 220g serving, so I would then edit the text to reflect the new serving size. Or say I made a batch of peanut butter cookies that made 26 cookies, but for some reason the next time I made them, even though it was the same exact ingredients, it only made 25, I would make that adjustment in the "serves" box to show that there are 25 servings instead of 26.

2.Nutritional information updates for current variation - Once you have saved your current variation, that will be the current nutiritional information that shows when entered. So if you made potato soup last Monday and entered it, but then today you are making the same soup but decide to add some extra potatoes. The nutritional facts will be different on the two individual entries. The soup you made last Monday will have the accurate nutritional facts for that exact bowl, and today's soup will have the nutrition facts which accurately include the addition of extra potatoes.

On the website, it does ask if you want to enter the recipe in the mfp database and if you choose yes, it will give you the option to write in the directions, oven temp, etc., if you wish. I have never done that so can't really comment on how that part works.

    Hope that helps!
