IIFYM

Has anyone had great success with this? Have some pointers? I used the calculator to find out my macros and I was surprised that I was supposed to eat SO MUCH protein and SO FEW carbs but I mean it seems like it would make sense to lose weight/be healthier.

I'm supposed to eat 1328 cals 166g Protein 17 ish grams of Carbs and about 66g of fat.

This is for a sedentary lifestyle because I don't know if I'll work out more than twice a week or what I'll be doing.
I do go to class four times a day and I'm a welding student but that doesn't seem like hard work to me.

firstly, don't trust the calculator 100%. It's a guide. After a few weeks of eating that amount, you'll see how your body reacts and then will be able to adjust your intake accordingly.

Secondly, IIFYM works. Be careful not to get too carried away with it though. Just because you can eat ****ty food, doesn't mean you should.By all means, eat it if it fits but know that you always have the choice to eat the healthier equivalent. It's not just about building muscle or losing weight, it's also about actually being healthy. But yes, like I said, the principles of IIFYM are correct.

    Good luck!

I just recalculated it for if I exercised 3x a week and only wanted my carbs to be 20% because I couldn't see living off of 17 carbs a day lol

I really think it could be beneficial to me. Thank you for your response!

That's a ton of protein. For protein you need 0.8grams to 1 gram per pound of lean body weight. Or generally about 100 works for most women.

    0.8g * body weight * (1 - body fat percentage).

Fat should be 0.3 * total body weight. Treat those as minimums and fill in the rest of your calories as you please, keeping in mind that whole foods usually contain more macro and micro nutrients for the calories (so eat some fruits, veggies and unprocessed meat).

Seee I was thinking it was a little absurd but it evened out a little bit when I added in for exercise and 20% carbs. Is processed meat like sandwich meat and sausage?

Yeah, and I'm not saying you can't eat them, just know that things like chicken, steak, etc will have slightly more nutrients for the calories. It's just that you want to make sure you get enough vitamins and minerals on top of your macro nutrients.
