    I used to do Black Friday when my kids were younger. But, my youngest one is a senior in high school. We haven't gotten "the list" yet. :) But, I will say that I usually do buy myself something while I do my Christmas shopping. :)

    They call it Black Friday because the stores are in accounting terms "in the black," meaning they are making money. If they were "in the red" then that's not good for them as they aren't making money.

    I"m in Canada too, but I find a lot of places have pretty decent sales on the same day.

    There are apparently a bunch of stores doing Black Friday sales in Canada to keep all the sales revenue from going over the border. Sears and Best Buy are in on it.

    I used to think it was that simple then I read a much more convoluted historical explanation. I'll still go ahead and agree that this is certainly the explanation that makes the most sense.

    (But then again, who asked me?)

    BTW now that Black Friday is online too, everyone has black friday!

    Yeah, lots of Canadian stores are doing Black Friday this year, particularly in my town. We live near the border and many people drive for hours to Duluth or Minneapolis to get good deals, and I guess they're trying to keep business in town. Makes sense, I suppose, but I'm a little annoyed that it's come to Canada, lol.
