Probably not what you mean.....lol. Argh, not sure why the picture isn't showing...0 -
I miss horseback riding so much0

Waves. I've got a 6 year old TB. We do dressage, jumping, and trail riding for fun.0

So let's get this barnyard party going!
What is everyone doing for fitness today? After fighting the flu for 11 days I was able to get my workout in today! I chose one of my favorites! TurboFire 45EZ.
Chalene and TurboFire are my happy workouts! She is so positive and makes me feel BEAUTIFUL! LOL! So the perfect choice for first day back in.
Next stop is riding my furry pony and doing some ground work on the second one!
Let's go peeps! Get some motivation going!

I'm loving all the pictures. I love to ride but have never owned my own horse. I rode loads when I was younger but stopped when I was around 15 or so. I have started again recently as a friend of mine owns two horses but we don't get out as often as I would like.0

Very cool, do it. I will say one thing though. Don't set a deadline, just set a weight goal and be diligent about working to it. Hopefully you'll get there sooner rather than later, but once you're there you won't give a damn how long it did or didn't take.0

I miss horses. I rode constantly until I went to college 3 years ago (eventing, but more dressage than anything). Of course, I never gained any weight until college-- which I attribute partly to not doing work in the barn every day.0

Whinnies!0

Today is raining :-( So no pony rides for me. I just finished a T25 workout instead!
Still get some extra weight training with putting out bales of hay!
What are you doing today for fitness?
For those of you looking for a some extra horsey photos, follow me on Instagram! Lots of horsey photos for you!0 -
Any other competitive barrel racers in this group? I just joined MFP. Got two barrel horses running, a project going, and a beginner's lesson business I'm running. I'm very busy, get plenty of excercise, but I swear I'm ADDICTED to eating. Hopefully this will be the start to changing that.
Grr, I have better technique as a rider than I did as a 17 year old, but I'd sure love that body back....it really made staying with these powerhouses a lot easier coming out of the barrel! I really want to get in shape for many reasons, but I'd love to get back into some tight blingy Ariat jeans and blow everyone into the 2D cuz I'm so light my horse doesn't know I'm on it Anyone else find it difficult to workout for the sake of working out when you know you still have stalls, shelters, and pens to muck out?0 -
LOL I'm sure we all have broken, dislocated, bruised and bitten stories. We could probably have a board of just that!! I hope you've been healing well and are back in the saddle in no time0
-
LOL, I'm right there with you! I would love to have mules, but I'm happy with my horses for now. When I get a farm someday...
Also have no interest in showing. I just like to be out on the trails0 -
Hi there! I flit in and out of MFP at random but I'm going to try sticking around this time! I am a semi-equestrian I guess, lol. My friend owns a horse and teaches at a local barn. Due to the awesomeness of the barn owner I get to hang out there, grooming/tacking/visiting. Once in a while I'll have a chance to get on my friend's beautiful OTTB mare, but that's just to walk around and cool her out. She's too spirited for me to handle when she's fresh, lol. In spring/summer/fall I work pony parties for the barn owner. For this I get free lessons for my girls who are 10 and 11. Occasionally I will get a lesson for myself or the owner will let me take a property ride on a schoolie. Its been 2 years since I started helping at the barn and I'm still very much a beginners walk/trot/canter and took my first jump in October! I'll try to upload a pic of myself from August on my favorite made, Queenie, but I don't know if I can from my cell phone...0
-
Nope, I guess no pics from phones lol. Or else I'm blind and don't see where you add it!0
-
I've got 3 horses and my main motivation is to get back in my show jacket this summer, However, I fell off 2 weeks ago and fractured my ankle! Now stuck inside and not exercising is hell and I'm dreaming about mucking out!0
-
I'm just glad I don't have to look for a rock or a hill in order to get back in the saddle when I drop something when on the trail!0

Hi all Dressage rider here! Got to a point in my riding where I knew the hirse was fit - I just couldnt help him! So Ive been improving my health and my fitness to assist with my riding.
Currently im sidelined with an achilles injury and hoping my reassessment tomorrow will give me tge green light to ramp up the workload again!0 -
I haven't rode in about 4 years. Losing weight and being able to take my boy out on the trail again is a big motivator.0

Hi all - My two horses have been snow bound and haven't been ridden since December. We are all getting chubby. I am now going to track what I eat and drop a few lbs. It's all good until night time when the chip drawer haunts me.0

Hello fellow Dressage rider! I hear you. Dressage demands so much (human) fitness. I've made a commitment as we'll. my amazon princess, Leviosa, is a big 17.2 Oldenburg. So challenging to keep that girl together!
I've started watching what I eat, and have a new fitness regime, with an personal trainer that specializes in the biomechanics of human to horse.
Ride 4x a week and to the gym 3x a week. I have a bad knee, and I'm blessed that I've a passion for a sport that doesn't require running!
My inspirations for getting fit:
- The amount of money we spend on our horses is outrageous! To get the most out our *ahem* "investment", we need to be fit.
- Those beautiful dressage riders! They are all slim and easily wrap their legs around their mounts. I need that!
- The ability to take our horses, and ourselves, "to the next level".
A good ride makes my day! Having the energy and fitness to do so makes me happy. That's it in a nutshell.0 -
I started lessons in my late 20s and kept them up for almost the past 20 years. I had a bad fall a few years ago over a jump, had two spinal surgeries and was out of work for a few months. I love being around horses so have given up jumping and now get a flat lesson once a week. This can be difficult at times as my centre of gravity is slightly out so sometimes I dont notice that one stirrup might be a different length to the other.
Its a little bit of exercise for me and but more importantly my time out.
My lumbar spine is now slightly curved where it shouldnt be, so I need to do plenty of core exercises and also need to lose weight.
We bought a 14h pony for our teenage daughter and now I spend every 2nd weekend driving them around to shows. Money pit but it keeps her very fit working around the livery yard and riding through the week.0 -
Haven't posted in months. I broke 7 ribs in July and amazingly I'm still healing. However, I could have been riding but we had the most horrible winter ever here in the Chicago area. It was finally warm enough to ride last weekend so here I am. Before I broke my ribs I had gone from 186 to 156 pounds. Now, back to 186. Living in a chair hasn't helped and no riding definitely didn't help. But I'm back and going to ride myself back to 156. (Darn picture came out too big. Can't see my gorgeous horse)

Yay, equestrians!
I try to ride atleast 3x a week. 1 lesson and 2 practice days. I don't own any horses, but I have the pleasure of working with 7 horses in exchange for working in the barn. They are a great mix of polo, eventer, hunter, OTTBs. And, as I said I take 1 lesson a week on top of that. So, barn chores and riding definitely keep me busy!
However, I have a hard time with my eating habits lately! Running home from the barn and just picking up a pizza and a bottle of soda. That has to stop!!! Have to get back on track, as a couple of years ago I lost around 30 lbs. Thankfully, none of it has come back, but I definitely just feel DIFFERENTLY right now. So, back to counting calories it is!0 -
I see that the original post is two years old, but oh well. I love talking about my horse I haven't ridden in a few years because I got so out of shape. I purchased a yearling Tennessee Walking Horse last year, thinking I'd be in shape by the time he's ready to go under saddle. So far, so good! He goes for saddle training in a year, so I have lot of time to lose the rest of my weight and get more flexible (and stronger). I'm hoping to do endurance riding with him (non-competitive) someday.
Hope this photo works. This is my gelding at 13 months at his old home, a 2000 acre cattle ranch. He's 23 months old tomorrow, so it's an old pic, but it's my favorite shot of him

Hi horsey people!
I have started dressage lessons after a very long 20 year break from riding and loving it. Currently riding a 17hh TB ex-eventer and a 15hh QH. Don't have any of my own but hope to own my own horse again one day in the next year or so. I love
Arabians and Quarter horses and will probably get a Quarab. I also love going out bush riding and would love to do endurance riding.
My instructor has recommended yoga and swiss ball excersises as things to add to my fitness training to improve my seat and core strength/balance, and riding without stirrups is great as well.0 -

I was hoping yoga would help me with my balance. And flexibility. I got out of shape and lost the little bit of flexibility I had. It's amazing how hard something simple like reaching a stirrup with your foot from the ground can get when you're out of shape lol0 -
Hi All,
I no this is an old post but would love to connect with horesy people! I have a QH and do trail riding and campdrafting.0 -
Neighghghgh I am too.
I have 3 horses, in Wisconsin, no indoor except when I can haul to one....so, very little riding has been happening, but a whole lot of barn work has been.
Weather looks to be getting better and I am crazy to get riding regularly.0 -
Neigh!
I had a horse when I was younger... sadly I had to find him a new, more enjoyable home when I went to college. After that, I gained and gained and gained to the point where I would not have/should not have been able to ride.
So, my big reward when I get down under the 200's is to go on a trail ride. ^_^ it's something I'm looking forward to big time. I think when I get even lower I'm going to start taking lessons and get back into it.0
