So why is it so hard to shape a calf?

Why in the world is it so hard to shape a calf? Being a woman is great. Working out is great. But what do I do with these calves? They are bigger around then my neck! What the heck! Any one know how to change that? Also how can you shrink a neck? Sure I know weight loss works wonders but is there anything special you can do to ensure the longer, leaner calf and not the bulky arnold calf? Or as I affectionatley have named mine---COWS! Any input is greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem. I thought they'd never go away, but as I lose weight, they do get smaller. Take a look at my profile pictures and you'll see what I mean. Unfortunately, you can't spot reduce, but you can get some cardio in to try and burn off the fat. Some people swear by pilates for that "long, lean muscles" look, but I've only done it a couple of times, so I can't really say if it works or not.

just exercise. cardio with strenght training. it is recommended to rotate from upper to lower body so your body has time to recover. if you have excess fat it is hard to tell a difference at first, since you cant see the defined tone muscles because of the fat. as you work out more you will be able to tell you are making progress because your routine will become easier. when i first started i could barely do sit ups, after a month of serious training i can do 20 in my first rep, not where i want to be although closer than i was
  • Awww!!! That makes me sad!!!!! I know what you are talking about with the calfs. I have seen some of the skinniest people have those calfs though. I don't know if that is completely genetic or if there is something you can do. I am interested to see the answers.

Genetics and the combination of fast twitch and slow twitch muscles.

First lose the weight and then worry about the size your calves. If they are still big when you are down to 20 - 22% body fat I would be surprised.

    Good luck!

I have the same issue! No matter what size I have ever been, my calves are big :( No tall boots for me that aren't stretchy! Hopefully something will change and the girth will reduce, lol
