Breastfeed
Belly Band (neoprene or the fancy expensive ones)
Lower ab workouts
Support Groups (MFP)
Calorie Counting!
Wear your baby (moby wrap, sleepy wrap, burn extra calories toting your little one)
I'm 15 months post pregger and still struggling with the baby pouch though. I understand hating this body, but if you work it'll get to a place where you can love it again0 -
^ Don't worry about ab workouts, if you do any strength training it should be in general, every body part. Targeting abs only will not get a sufficient enough workout to burn fat, as your heartrate doesn't elevate enough during the exercise. And since you want to remove fat, the only way to do so is eating right and cardiovascular exercise. Emphasis on eating right.0

First Tip: Be PATIENT with yourself and your body! I'm sure you've heard it, but it's the truth: It takes 9 months to put it on it will take at least that long to take it off.
If your doctor has given you the okay to go ahead with working out, find a friend and start small -- one day a week -- and go to the gym! I can guarantee any other mom friend is having the same issues as you and would love to go to the gym. It also gives you a couple hours out of the house!
Watch your calories but remember if you're nursing that you should be eating approximately an extra 500 calories on top of the regular amount. Ask your doctor for some recommendations.
I'm currently 6.5 months post baby no. 2 and I FEEL YOUR PAIN! lol ... I've been working out with 2 other moms who are also post baby -- 3 months baby no. 2 and 9 months baby no.1 -- so feel free to friend me for support!0 -
The best way to reduce the belly is to burn calories.
I did it (after pregnancy) by nursing, nursing, and nursing.
It will take time. You can do it. Eat less, burn more. Do your cardio when you can.0 -
Don't "hate" your body no matter how big it got. You can't make progress with that attitude. I know it sound corny but you need to love yourself as you are and then work on getting in shape.
Obviously eat less than you burn to lose the excess weight. Cardio, weight training and eating under your MFP suggested calorie intake will give you results.
Stay active on MFP and read about the progress other people have made. It's amazing what others have accomplished.
It is important to know that most people only tap about 5% of their true potential. It is only when they get past their mistaken beliefs about themselves that they achieve great things.
I don't know what your financial situation is or what support you can expect to receive from you family, but even in the worst case scenario you can achieve this. Buy a simple aerobic step or a cheap stationary bike and use it as often as you can.
Set reasonable goals for yourself like "I will lose 5 pounds by this date". It more important to have goals then it is to actually achieve them. If you fail you can just set another goal.
You asked a question that can't be answered in a paragraph or two but I hope my advice gets you started. Believe in yourself and you can achieve it.0 -

My heartrate soars when I do Ab Ripper X on P90X. I forgot to include High Intensity Interval Training is a great way to burn fat too. Just look up interval training or HIIT. Its a great workout and quick too.0 -
Feel you, mama!!
Mommy of two, last child was born Mar 09', and from then, I was on a mission! It took me almost a year to get where I wanted, now I've been maintaing for 8 months. Even at my goal weight, I hate my *naked* mommy body lol, but with clothes on I love it! I've come to the conclusion, and per physicians angle, that I'd have to get a tummy tuck for the mini kangaroo pouch to completely vanish! Oh well, the price I paid for two healthy babes
I agree with the PP, though, cardio will help you burn fat, but diet should be the main focus.0 -
Back off on the abs workout until you've seen a professional. From what I understand the abs seperate outwards to the side to accomodate the growing child. Working your abs too early before they're fully repaired and back together isn't a good idea. if it's been 2 months then you might be OK but I'd check it out first. Oh and certainly nothing too high impact..... pelvic floor. As someone else said just increase your activity levels gently, you've got a lot of other stuff going on.0

I was a new mom .. 4 1/2 years ago. The best workout I got was going for walks while pushing the stroller. Seriously! Just walking and the added resistance of the stroller is awesome ... especially up hill.
As someone mentioned, it took 9 months to put the weight on and it will take that many months or longer to get it off again. Take it slow, you are only 8 weeks postpartum.0 -
First of all, don't hate your body. Think about the mircaculous process it has undergone to carry and deliver a baby. You're amazing!!!!!
Secondly, I agree with many other posters here. Give yourself some time. Growing a baby is a long haul, so is taking off baby weight. Be careful and use doctor supervision so you don't hurt yourself. Being an injured mother is one of the worst things to have happen because you need to take care of your newborn.
Whenever you feel down about your new body, tell yourself my body is strong, my body delivered my baby, my pre-baby body will return, just be patient!

I agree with the others telling you not to hate your body, it made you a beautiful little baby that will grow into your child and love you forever. That being said, I know what you meant about hating the condition your body is in now that the baby is out.
I've been there done that THREE times. I've lost ALL the weight only to put it back on with a subsequent pregnancy, and then did it again, and again. I had my 3rd in June. Had a c-section and am not working my butt off to get back to a size 1 and be my normal, comfortable self. You CAN do it and you WILL get back there with the right combination of motivation and determination.
What has worked for me is eatting correctly, exercising (P90X, running, skating, swimming, etc.) It will take time for your body to recover. The amount of time it takes depends on the pregnancy, and everyone's pregnancy and body is different. I don't care what people think about me, so I will share all of my stats with you, so you don't feel alone.
At 20yrs old, pre pregnancy I was about a size 7, I weighed around 145lbs right before I got pregnant. I'm 5'10. I had started to gain weight before I got pregnant...
October 2006 I had my 1st daughter at 21yrs old. I weighed 206lbs.
By July 2007, I was in a size 3. and weighed about 135lbs. 9 months later. I ended up weighing LESS than my pre-pregnancy weight.
In August 2007 I got pregnant again. (I guess I really did look good, lol)
In May 2008, my 2nd daughter was born via c-section. I weighed 209lbs. I gained about 80lbs from the pregnancy. I hated myself. I think I hated everything in life at that point. I have NEVER been that fat in my life. My daughter was almost 10lbs at birth.
It took me some time to loose it all, but I did it. By the next summer, I was the skinniest I had ever been. I weighed about 130lbs and I was starting to fit into a size 1. I was in a size 3 though, comfortably.
Then, I got pregnant AGAIN.
My 3rd daughter was born in June of this year, 2010. I weighed 197lbs. I had a repeat csection. I had complications throughout the pregnancy and was on bedrest for the entire duration. I HATED not being able to work out, etc. I felt like my world was upside down.
After my daughter was born, I felt discusting. It hurt to know that I had made such amazing progress, only to find myself right back at square one. I only did it because my husband wanted a boy. But, we got a 3rd girl. So, I felt like I failed all the way around. My doctor wouldn't let me workout until 4 months after my surgery. I started to moderately exercise at 3 months post pardum, walking and swimming. Right now, I'm not even close to my goal. I still have about 25lbs to go, but it is coming off. I'm loosing inches more so than pounds.
I use the P90X dvds at home when the baby sleeps.
Put the baby in a carriage and GO! You'll loose a lot just from walking.
If you're brave, I put my kids in a jogging stroller and skate with them.
If you live close to a YMCA, they offer free childcare while you workout. You can use the pool or the tredmills. Sometimes it's nice just to get a small break and some time for you.
Don't worry. Right now it feels like the weight will never come off, but it will. And I use formula You're not alone, we're in this together!0
