Want to lose but just maintaing?

I started trying to watch what I eat and walking on treadmill over a month ago, most days I'm below mfp recommended calories or just barely over. I walk on treadmill for 30 minutes each day along with my normal daily activities, I watch my heart rate and have it in my range needed for at least 20 minutes of the 30 sometimes more. I have lost ZERO weight. I am maintaining my weight which would be great if I didn't want to lose 100+ pounds. I have a bad back and an old shoulder injury that have prevented me from wanting to push too hard for fear of more injury. I cannot afford to be off work from said injury. I need advice, help, motivation. Anything encouraging to help me jump start this weight loss. I am starting to get very discouraged and this has been when I have givin up in the past but I am determined to be a thinner healthier me!

Hey, I dont have any experience with injury so wouldn't know how much it would hold you back, but might be worth just asking your doctor or something about it too. Hopefully people with much more experience on here will help you out! It doesn't make much sense if you are under your goals every day altho it will take time for your body to adjust. . .for me I had to kick start with some fat burner tablets to be honest. they did work! but they made my heart feel fluttery and I wouldn't use them again ( i didnt realise I had a history of heart disease in the family otherwise would have stayed clear). Maybe try green teas and such as well?
  • Well I have some garcinia tabs and I was taking those but I forget most of the time now but they didn't seem to do anything other than give me gas. Hopefully someone has some words of wisdom for me! :)

Hi how long have you been on here? I would keep going and sticking to your calorie limit it csn take time to show on the scales. Keep going x

I think it's going to come down to how many calories you are eating, rather than the exercise. How well are you tracking your calories? Logging everything? Measuring and weighing your food?
  • I have an old injury to my right shoulder that finally seems to be mostly healed but injured the other at the gym last night. My advice. Dont be stupid like me and push to hard just to please other people. I am trying to lose weight and get healthy for me, but let hurtful words about my body by someone I love motivate me to overdo it. Stick with it at the pace you can handle. Listen to your body. It takes a while to lose sometimes. I have lost 110 lbs in 4 years. A lot of that was lost during the time I had my first injury. I just took it slow and pressed on.
  • I've used the app for a year but really only sticking to it for about 2 months. I track only with mfp. I don't weigh or measure food.
    Thanks for the support!

No point pushing harder on the exercise if you just end up hurting yourself. I'll just repeat some things I've read here and share a little personal experience. Hope it helps.

Lots of folks seem to think diet is more important for weight loss than exercise. There was a thread where a load of people agreed with that and it's been my experience too. So more exercise may not be the answer you need anyway. As someone above said, it'll likely come down to how many calories you're eating vs. spending.

A common issue here seems to be accurate recording of food. A food scale is often recommended and I have to agree, when I got mine, I realized my estimates were way off sometimes. If you're not using one, might think about it.

I was losing weight pretty well, but got stuck for a week. Didn't lose anything. So I just cut the calories back this week and it got things moving again. Might try just one or two days coming in under your calorie goal. Two days seemed to get my body going again.

Remember. 80% FOOD 20% EXERCISE. Looks like you are making an effort even when you have injuries and that is great news! Don't get discourage. I always tell myself, it didn't take you two months to gain all that. Be patient and result will follow!
