food log question...help needed

When using the food log, how can you delete old foods from the list of foods you've eaten, if you no longer eat them anymore?
I have foods that I used to eat, that I don't eat anymore, that I have to go through to find what I'm looking for.
It doesn't make sense.
Is there a way to remove the unneeded foods?

Any help would be appreciated!
:)
Lori

I'm new, and see that this has been asked a bazillion times over the years. You can only remove foods from "frequent". I find that if I choose the meal from the drop down menu, it shows just the recent items from that meal.
  • That really sucks. You should be able to remove that damn donut that you no longer want to eat!!!

I don't believe you can delete it but if you start to frequently eat other foods they will move down the list over time.
  • They do move down the list, which would be fine, but I rarely can find what I'm looking for, and end up having to find another item in the search list.
Also, my lists are all messed up, because I changed the meals from Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack, to Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Snack, Dinner, Snack based on my actual eating habits, so all my lunch items are now under Snack, and all my dinner items are now under Lunch. It's a real mess, and I hoped to be able to just clear it all and start fresh.

If you really want to do this, then there is a way that is kind of annoying but works.

Go to a day a few months in the future, and add to it all of the foods you would like to see in your lists. Then add each thing a bunch more times to that same day. Now, it each food is something you log "frequently" and you've added it "recently." Use it like this for awhile, and when you get to that future day, curse yourself because now you have to go and manually delete each food from your diary for that day :)

Hey, it works. I didn't say it would be pretty or fun.
  • I guess I just needed to search further. Please pass this on to other members when they have the same problem...it works perfectly:

Can I remove a food from my "Most Used" or "Frequent" list? What if I change my mind?

Food items can be removed from the Frequent list using our website. Currently, frequently used food items cannot be deleted using our mobile apps. We will consider adding this feature in a future update.

To delete items, log in to our website at http://www.myfitnesspal.com. Mobile app users should log in using the same username and password they use in the app.

Once you've logged in, click the "Food" tab, then click "Add Food" below the meal whose list you'd like to edit, then click the "Frequent" tab. Check the box next to the items you'd like to remove, then click the "Delete from list" button at the bottom of the page.

Please note that items removed in this way are "blacklisted" from appearing on the list again. In other words, this is not a temporary deletion, but a permanent ban on that foods return to your "Frequent" list. Users who have made a radical change in their eating habits will use this to remove the junk food from their lists, for example.

If you would like to allow some or all of the items to return to your Frequent list, click the "View Deleted Items" button at the bottom of the list. Place a check next to any items in the list and then "restore" them to the pool of foods permitted to accumulate in your Most Used list.

Items removed from the Most Used list on the website may also disappear from Frequent list in the app the next time the app syncs.

This is something that really annoys me too - it's good that I can delete things from my "frequent" list but I don't understand why you can't with your "recent" list too.

Logically it should be the other way round because even though you logged something recently that doesn't mean you'll ever eat or drink it again (you might have tried it and not liked it - or it was a one-off treat) so you should be allowed to delete it, whereas something you log frequently is obviously something you keep eating/drinking and are more likely to want to remember.

It's especially irritating because "recent" is the default tab so I either have to look through all my recent food for something that might not be there because it's "too old" or search for it again in the database.
