How have i lost weight? I've done everything wrong.

I don't understand how I'm losing weight. Not as if I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth. However I seem to work so hard to lose weight then nothing happens, but suddenly of the weeks I effectively give up (as in binge on unhealthy food, have chips for dinner and burgers) I list a pound. I then went back to being healthy and nothing append and a few days ago, I went on a night out and had 9 drinks (2 of then white Russian and all of them mixers other than a cider) and ate out. And suddenly I'm a pound lighter again. I'm so confused.

Weight loss doesn't just happen the day after you eat healthy - it's a long slow process.

Drinking that much alcohol dehydrates you.

Yes I know but that was days ago. And I've drank 8/10 glasses a day since then.

Water retention. It takes days to accumulate or subside.

Focus on what you're doing and not what's on the scale. Give yourself at least a couple of weeks to see an actual change in weight.

    Probably not water retention...

There is some science behind weight loss after a day of excess calories especially if you have been restricting calories for quite awhile.

    From leangains.com:

"For a lean person, or for someone one a prolonged dieting stint, low leptin is an issue. This hormone, the king of hunger regulation, controls metabolic rate, appetite, motivation and libido, among other things. Leptin drops whenever your body senses a calorie deficit and when fat mass is lost.

The reverse happens when your body senses a calorie surplus. A surplus temporarily boosts leptin, which leads to downstream effects on fat oxidation, thyroid, dopamine and testosterone. In the context of dieting, refeeds are therefore beneficial."

After a huge supper late in the evening well in excess of what I normally eat I actually look thinner the following day.

It sounds like you are unintentionally having a calorie cycle, or in my brain an equalization day. Lol. I had read the science on having a high calorie day years ago. Many big diets insist you reset once a week ( body for life is one of them). It helps curb cravings, gives you a time to socialize if needed, and lets your body know that things havent gone totally to famine mode.

I have always had success with this theory. It usually takes me two days after a big meal to see a loss though. I have a slow gut! Lol

So, my personal plan is to restrict calories six days a week. I eat what ever I want on the one day off, but it usually only means on big meal to me.
