Hi everyone! Is anyone using any of the xbox kinect games for working out? If so, which one are you using and what do you like and dislike about it? I'm trying to decide which of the games to get and if it's even worth it to get one in the first place. Thanks!

My boyfriend asked for this for Christmas.

I was like 'meh whatever' but then I saw that they have Biggest Loser for it! I haven't tried any of them out but am interested in finding out what games people like for working out.

We have tried the Your Fitness Evolved (I may have the name wrong) and EA Sports Active on the Kinect. So far we like EA Sports better -- both are effective, but the YFE seems more like work and is less visually appealing. You can watch yourself pixelated on the screen, which is kind of cool, and it tells you if you are keeping up and doing the moves correctly (more or less). But the screen is basically just white, and you feel more like you're working. (Well, we did.) The EA Sports Active is very bright and colorful and has some "games" (like dodgeball, soccer, etc) that make the workout feel more like fun to us than the other game. But that's a personal preference. The EA one requires you to wear an armband that shows your heart rate on the screen, and you can use the supplied resistance band or your own weights (you can program it to show you using weights). It uses the Kinect sensor to show what you are doing using an avatar. Both of them seem worthwhile as an exercise tool though, it's just a personal preference -- I was terribly bored with the YFE but I think it did offer some new and different workouts.

We got Your Fitness Evolved and I'll be honest, I haven't even gotten to open it yet but the price point was a HUGE factor. EA Sports Active is twice the price of Your Fitness Evolved.
  • I have YFE and Dance Central (which is not really a workout game but MAN does it burn some calories if you get into it!!!) The YFE has some great workouts on it which I love but like was said in an earlier post it can be kind of boring at times. But I like that it tells you if you're doing something correct/wrong. Now Dance Central is obviously a dance game and I LOVE IT! It has an optional workout mode that counts calories but don't go by that since I wear my HRM and their count vs my count is WAY off! But like I said, it's LOTS of fun, and you can burn some good calories to it and have a great time.

The next actual workout game I plan on getting is the Zumba which looks very promising, and The Biggest Loser. I have to wait for Christmas for those so I can't tell you if they're good or not so sorry...

Im really thinking about buying a connect and a couple of games, One being the Finess Evolved - it has very good reviews and my wife wants to do Zumba. Best buy has buy 2 connect games for 70 dollars deal going on right now and I think we should take advantage of it.
  • We have the Kinect. I have to say the Biggest Loser game is as close to having a personal trainer in your living room than you could get with out the real deal. There are actual programs to choose from lasting anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 weeks and targeted for specific goals. It keeps track of how well you do with each workout and adjusts your program accordingly. Its pretty awesome.

I have the Decca Sports and the Kinect Sports. I like the Kinect Sports better because it has several differnt sports that you can compete in like bowling, beach volleyball, table tennis, boxing and soccer. Each workout gets your heart rate up (except for bowling). I think that is one of the low intense games, but after 10 minutes or so, you will definitely start to feel the burn.

Love the kinect! My favorite way to workout is dance central!!! Fun and i can control intensity by song choice, also new songs become available by download for more variety. Also have the zumba, very intense cardio that i had to work up to but still fun,not as easy to use/ menus either as dance central. Planning on investing next in one of the training games, still researching online but leaning to biggest loser. Kinect sports and adventure game are 2 others we have. I play them for family/friends game night that everyone enjoys but don't perfer them for a strict workout. Look for game that suits your interests and then you can look at online reviews(gamespot.com) to find out which games have tech issues. Some read your body responses better that others. Good luck, i'm sure you will enjoy the investment,if you don't you can always exchange them at gamespot for others. We did this with the dance masters game, it was not rated favorably and i learned why after purchased it...
