New and relatively easy routines?

Hey guys!
I'm looking to start easy (ie low set up cost) and relatively easy (I'm very obese) new fitness routines. I regularly get my dog out for a walk but that is the extent of my exercise regime. I tried snowshoeing today and really liked it (hard but that was okay!).
Suggestions?

Truthfully walking is a low impact exercise that is great to start with. Map out 1 mile and work towards that then extend it. good luck0

Get a copy of the book "You are your own gym" (there's an app available too). It's a home strength program that requires nothing but your bodyweight and regular household items- like chairs and steps and gallons of water.
Other than that I would start walking.0 -
Hey Molly-
I was Obese a few months ago, and and happily merely overweight now. And I did it by eating smart (eating nutritious, weighing food, and keeping my calories in check) and by doing what you are already doing—walking.
I walk a lot. It is something I can do every day w/o getting bored, and I track with my FitBit. It's not exciting, high-energy like P90 or Insanity or any of the other exercise programs, but it is working. And it is easy on my body (knees, etc.) so there is very little chance I'll be slowed down by an injury.
Main thing is just sticking with it. And just think how happy your dog will be!0 -
Walking is excellent exercise! If you have access to a pool, swimming or things like aquafit are low impact.
In case weather outside is crappy, you could invest in some workout DVDs (or check out Youtube). I love Jillian Michaels (you either love her or hate her, lol) for circuit training, and I just started using some Leslie Sansone walking DVDs. (I've heard you can find hers easily online.) I like workout DVDs because I find they tend to push you a little harder than you'd go if you were just making up a routine on your own. (Totally depends on the type of person and workout mode you have, though, I suppose.)
I got a suspension trainer for $40 on Amazon that lets me do a whole bunch of body weight exercises using my doorframe, and between all of those, I feel like I get a pretty decent workout. If I join a gym again, I'd definitely work on lifting (and recommend it to all), but for starting out at home, I found the cost cheap and the variety high. You need handweights (though you could use cans of food/bottles of water, etc.) and a mat if you work out on a hard surface.
Best of luck!0 -
1. Join a gym
2.Pick up their heavy stuff
3. Repeat ad infinitum
In all seriousness, heavy lifting will be your best bet, and it's VERY easy, as well as not very time consuming. Look up "Starting Strength" or "New Rules of Lifting For Women" to help simplify things. Low startup cost for the book, and most cities have gyms for around $30/mo or less.
If a gym is completely out of the question, look up "You Are Your Own Gym". I can't stress strength training enough. You'll be happy you started it.0 -
I started building strength with Golds stretch tubes. Very inexpensive. I was terribly out of shape and was afraid of injury to my joints. These give support on the return move. I used one pair of the short ones and one long one. I think my total investment was about $14.00. They come with suggested moves to get started. Good for you that you want to get in shape!0
