obsessing?

I just joined MFP last week, but today realized that I now OBSESS over what I put in my mouth. I felt horrible for Wednesday and Friday's entries....and beat myself up over them. Anyone else experience this and is it a "newness" (the obsessing) that wears off?

  • I have been recording what I eat for almost 35 days. I do beat myself up a little bit if I go over my 1200 calories. What I usually do is try to make sure I work out the next day. I work harder at the gym to try to burn some extra calories. Read some of the posts about it on here. It helped me realize that not every day is going to be a great day when it comes to my food. Give yourself a break. If I restrict myself too much I will end up binge eating by the end of the week. Good luck , you can do it!

I'm glad someone else is experiencing this! I become so obsessed with everything I eat (I only joined almost 2 weeks ago) - and it makes me so flat when I go over. I think especially having the iphone app I check everything beofre I eat it!
  • MFP has 1800 calories as my daily "goal"...that has to be incorrect. Same as my daily carb and sodium allowances. At 1800c/day, I will never get "there".
  • I feel a bit like that too, but it is also motivating..

do you normally obesse over things? i assume everyone is different on how they deal with things. unless you find this behavior unhealthy or it srarts to interfer with your personal life then obesse away. dont beat yourself up over a bad day, we all have them. i would say someone who says they dont is a liar. we are human not machines. i dont know how strict you are being, when i first started i set my goals to lose two lbs a week and was miserable, after i changed them to one lb i do a lot better. i dont feel deprived therefore dont binge as often. as you progress in this journey you will learn healthy choices that allow you more food with less calorie intake. good luck. add me if you want.

Before you know it'll be routine, promise you! Alot of you that shared on this thread seemed to pretty new here, that might be why it feels that way. What may seem obsessive now is actually tracking that none of us did before we began on here or at least in a healthy way.

It's good to track everything that goes in your mouth and your workouts...you'll see it will help you develop a pattern. A positive pattern of healthy eating and healthy living... Just give it time, you'll be fine:flowerforyou: , simply pre-plan the meals a day (or more, some pre-plan for the week) at a time and you won't have to constantly be on the food diary. Every time you take a bite and haven't pre-planned the day I can only imagine how crazy that would make one feel.:noway:

Well to all of you new folks...always good to have new ppl discover MFP, it'll change your life more than you can possibility imagine:wink::drinker: You made a really healthy decision coming to MFP:wink:
  • No, I don't think I am an "obsessor"...I don't think I am being strict, I try to stay under what MFP allows me daily. Unfortunately, getting to the gym is a bit problematic for me, I work 12 hr night shifts in a horribly busy ER; when I get off work in the morning and finally get my son off to school, the last thing I want to do is go to the gym. Somehow, I have to find a way to change that or find another time of the day that works better for me. It isn't so bad when I only work 1 or 2 nights in a row, but there are 3 weeks out of every month that I work three 12s in a row :(

I joined last year, obsessed to the point I wouldn't even chew gum without entering it. I was analyzing every darn thing. It worked for me though because I lost 30 lbs.
I took a break over the Summer and just came back in a serious way with logging my food and I can already see myself obsessing again. It's only been a week!!
I don't think it's a bad thing as long as you don't let it ruin your life. If it starts taking away enjoyment, take a step back and reassess.

If it helps when I started my weight loss journey (270 lbs) I ate between 1750 and 1950 calories until I hit around 190 lbs. I am 5'7

I lost weight consistently with exercise and eating that calorie level.

When I started to struggle was when I dropped it below 1600. I wish now I would have just stayed where I was and kept losing slowly. Instead I yo yoed between 190 and 200 for almost a year.

Stress can sure play tricks with your mind! I know that working ER and being a Mom is super tough! If anything, focus on nutrition and sleep. This alone can pull you through. I haven't been able to exercise much because of injury. But I am slowly loosing weight and inches by changing my eating habits. I believe fruits and veggies are basically zero calories if you could just eat them (easier said than done.) This time a year, you especially need the nutrients to build up your immune system. Lots of sick people come to the ER.

Ya know dangit......if we could just engineer veggies to taste like dark chocolate or Leinenkugel's HoneyWeiss beer!!! Not that I dislike veggies, I just like beer and dark chocolate mmmmmuch much more ;)

Thanks for all the great tips/advice/replies thus far. I appreciate :)

I've been completely obsessive about what I eat, when I eat, and my exercise since joining MFP.
