Hi everyone, my name is Maria, and I seriously need help with my self image. My weight has been yoyoing up and down since two and a half years ago. I would partake in extreme diets with vigorous exercises, then get so hungry and exhausted to the point that I will eventually gain back everything I've lost, plus an added few pounds.
My goal is to eat nothing but fruits and veggies starting now, and go to the gym every monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, and saturday. I always say that I need to focus on my studies and avoid the gym, but that's bull**** excuse because I think you either go to the gym or you don't, and it should be a part of your routine.
However, I have no gym buddies because none of my friends need to lose weight, and the ones who do never works out with my schedule. So I'm hoping to make friends here who will follow through with my tough journey. :)

Nothing but fruits and veggies and the gym five times a week? It sounds like you are embarking on another extreme diet plan. Making a healthy life change that you can sustain beyond a diet will be more beneficial in the long run. Add to that a calorie deficit. You will find lots of support here on MFP.

    Welcome and good luck!

A little advice, though - if you don't want to get hungry and exhausted and gain all the weight back, then I would recommend not restricting yourself to only fruits and veggies. You need to make a change that's sustainable and gives your body enough fuel so that you can keep doing this for the long haul. If you're starving and unsatisfied, you're just going to repeat that same yoyo cycle.

    Hi Maria,

Welcome to MFP. I have to say, I got a bit concerned when you said, "My goal is to eat nothing but fruits and veggies starting now."

Fruits and veggies are great, and should make up most of your diet, but you absolutely need protein and some healthy fats. Your body needs them, and they will help keep you from getting too hungry. Also, be careful with the amount of fruit because of the natural sugars and lean more towards vegetables and use fruit as a snack.

Understand that it's about making a lifestyle change and not just going on a diet. Be patient. The first time I tried this, I was being so good, and the scale didn't budge for the first 4 weeks, but then quickly caught up. I even lost quicker when I added an extra 100 calories a day. Stick it out.. This isn't just about weight but about your health and putting the right kinds of fuel in your body.

Here's an online calculator to help you figure out how many calories (approximately) you should be consuming. You can leave out the exercise portion of it to get your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) at rest, and let MFP account for calories you burn off through exercise (DO eat those back if you've already calculated for a calorie deficit at rest). The exercise will tone you, improve your health and endurance, and boost your metabolism.

Good luck and feel free to add me as a friend.
