Great alternative for Ice cream lovers!

I love ice cream! But I'm lactose intolerant. Yonanas is a great substitute. I wasn't sold on the idea of frozen bananas masquerading as ice cream but a friend of mine had me try some at her house, I went out and got a Yonanas making machine the next week. It's fantastic, and you can make a million flavors with it.0

Check out these alternatives.

BUMP! THANKS FOR SHARING CAN'T WAIT TO TRY THIS!0

If it helps, my mom used to give me frozen pudding cups as 'Ice Cream.' I still do that to this day at work and nobody has asked why is there snack packs in the freezer. XD0

Sweet Meal biscuits like Wheaton or Digestive biscuits are similar fast to graham crackers.
my ice cream is non fat Greek yogurt and your choice of frozen fruit in my Vitamix blender makes rich ice cream ( add sweetener of flavoring of choice).0 -
Wow. A lot of you are harsh! The poster obviously wanted to share something good she discovered to be nice. If you'd rather eat ice cream then fine. Why must you blast someone for liking an alternative? Unless you have something nice or helpful, why post a response? Just carry on and let her be. Sheesh! Go ahead, bash me if you must to make yourself feel better. By the way, I love using a frozen banana blended in my food processor with peanut butter. That is my ice cream alternative. :-)

Since you can't be bothered to read all of the replies in this thread, I'm just going to requote WendyTerry420 and JoRocka who both already responded to this.some people are so rude, which on this site is NOT necessary. I, like many others, are welcome to healthier alternatives. I agree with this snack, and lite whip cream is very low in cals and sugar....MUCH better than ice cream. Also, another trick...take one tbsp of peanut butter, i like crunchy, and mix it thoroughly with the lite whip cream. SO good, tastes like peanut butter pie filling.
how is that any less than this?my Turkey Hill Lite Moose tracks is 110 for one serving- which is only 220 for 2 (about 120 grams).
delicious.
nice idea- but I'll take ice cream deliciousness
it's not about being rude- it's about being educated- and the point is- it's no more or less healthy than ice cream.
Right! I was taught "Honesty is the best policy." I think it's rude to let people believe things that aren't true. I would have quit long ago if not for the so-called "rude" people on MFP who were not afraid to tell the truth!0 -

sounds yummy but we don't have graham crackers here in the UK i'm not sure what a similar item would be here.
Do you have chocolate tea biscuits? Something like this: http://www.foodservicedirect.com/product.cfm/p/1928585/Chocolate-Tea-Biscuit.htm?gclid=CLeW15ChrLwCFaVQOgodJQoAzA
They have a lot less chocolate flavor than graham crackers. . .but I guess you could probably order actual graham crackers online somewhere.0 -

exactly!!! I love this site for so many reasons. The one thing I cannot stand is how self-righteous people get on these boards. I wish I could always be right and a preach to everyone...oh wait... no I don't.
Thank you for the suggestion!0 -
Thank you for the idea! I have a mean sweet tooth lately and appreciate this low-cal idea ????0

Here is an Ice cream sub that I like. I prefer this not completely frozen. I use plain greek 2% plain yogurt and add walnuts and/or berries.
Yogurt, Honey & Cinnamon Ice Cream (Makes 4-6 Servings)
◾16oz Greek Yogurt
◾1/4 Cup Honey
◾1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
1. Place all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk to combine.
2. Pour the yogurt mixture into an ice cream maker and chill according to manufacturers directions. (If you don’t own an ice cream maker, no worries, this mixture can be poured into popsicle molds and frozen for 6 hours or longer)
3. Place the mixture in the freezer to firm up, about 1-2 hours.
By the way I applaud you for trying to substitute.0 -
By the way I applaud you for trying to substitute.
Huh?
I mean, I understand that it isn't necessarily a *bad* thing, because I suppose there are some situations where it might be useful...but why would it necessarily be a *good* thing worthy of applause?0 -
why is this thread still going?
just eat real ice cream..

^^^^ Agreed. Thanks to the original poster for sharing a good idea. While some people may just prefer to eat a smaller quantity of the real thing, some people get satisfaction from a larger portion, which these allow for. I discovered these sandwiches years ago, when I was on weight watchers, and I thought they were great! Don't let bullies deter you from sharing ideas.... we all do things that are "unhealthy" and if you have found a lower calorie version of a treat that may not be the healthiest, but it helps you to consume less calories, and reach your ultimate weight loss goal, I say more power to ya! Please keep sharing good ideas and don't let bullies deter you!0 -

Frozen bananas and peanut(or other nut) butter in a blender with maybe a little almond milk to loosen the texture. Very creamy Very delicious. http://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/two-ingredient-banana-peanut-butter-ice-cream/
THIS SOUNDS AND LOOKS AMAZING! CAN'T WAIT TO TRY IT! Thanks for sharing0 -
I LOVE ICE CREAM! I must shout it to everyone! Fortunately, ice cream isn't exactly "healthy". I did come up with a good alternative that is...you'll never believe it...UNDER 200 cals! Just take chocolate graham crackers (low fat or reduced cal if you can find them) break them in half and make a "sandwich" with Lite Cool Whip in the middle. Freeze for two hours. Tastes just like an ice cream sandwich with WAY less calories (about 130 for two sandwiches using full calorie graham crackers). YUM!
Why not just go for a Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich? 130 Calories - and it's REAL ice cream... and they ROCK!!!0 -

No, I do not think it is bullying to point out to the lady that the health benefits of cool whip may not be any better than ice cream. As others have pointed out, this is useful information she may not know, and sharing that in a respectful manner is exactly the reason forums exist.
However, the condescending, smart-*kitten*, holier-than-thou attitude of a lot of the posters, is what I was referring to as "bullying". Apparently, my post struck a nerve with you, but I haven't read all of your comments to know whether yours were the kind I was referring to. I didn't single anyone out, and I think it is pretty obvious from reading them, which posts are derogatory and rude, and who is disagreeing just to bully. It is also easy to tell which people are simply trying to convey information (which is completely fine).
So, to anyone who provided helpful information, but wasn't rude about it, my comments shouldn't offend you. I think people are trying to stand up for a person who was just sharing something that might help us all. It is annoying to see someone be attacked and basically called an idiot for sharing an opinion that actually might help others, which is the point of a forum.0 -

Get your head out of the clouds. This is an Internet forum, and not to be taken so deadly serious0 -

Wow. A lot of you are harsh! The poster obviously wanted to share something good she discovered to be nice. If you'd rather eat ice cream then fine. Why must you blast someone for liking an alternative?
Because the alternative is not really any better than the real thing. It's not healthier to eat whipped cream. *shrug*
If you happen to prefer this particular dessert to ice cream, eat away. But don't fool yourself into thinking it's healthier or even that it's fewer calories than a serving of ice cream.
I dropped from a size 12 to a size 6 in about three months eating a Baskin Robbins ice cream cone (sugar cone, of course) every Friday.
Close but not quite. Cool whip is made with fully hydrogenated oil, not partially hydrogenated oil.
Fully hydrogenating an oil creates a saturated fat. Trans fats are unsaturated. Fully hydrogenated oil is not trans fat.
Cool Whip has no trans fat. It's saturated fat. But, yeah, it's certainly no better than ice cream.
^^^ This
Cool Whip also has no flavor. Why would I eat ANYTHING that has no flavor? The same people that like Cool Whip must like eating Rice Cakes, Paper Towels and cardboard.
Still looking for a good flavored cardboard tho.0 -

Might as well go for the roll now to rid it from our recent topics list.
Everybody, back in for a few posts!0 -
Now, I could be wrong here, but I believe that the Graham cracker was actually the US's answer to the British digestive biscuit - something about digestives weren't allowed to be sold because they don't actually help digestion
So I guess digestives would be a good alternative... :P ha ha
Fact is stranger than fiction.
According to wikipedia:
"The graham cracker was originally conceived of as a health food as part of the Graham Diet, a regimen to suppress what he considered unhealthy carnal urges, the source of many maladies according to Graham. Reverend Graham would often lecture on "self-abuse" as *kitten* was commonly called at the time. Graham would often say how these experiences were inspired by children eating crackers.[1] One of his many theories was that one could curb one's sexual appetite by eating bland foods. Another man who held this belief was John Harvey Kellogg, the inventor of the corn flakes cereal.[2]"
So, graham crackers = no *kitten*. Eat at your own risk!
