I put in all my measurements and the original tool had me at 55.6% and this tool with all my measurements has me at 39%
Everyone I know tries to tell me that Im not as big as i am and this kinda showed me that. Im a size 20/22 at 300+ lbs

Far too many people here are far too quick to dismiss doctors - at the end of the day, they're qualified to dispense medical advice, and 99.9% of posters here are not. If you have a large amount of fat to lose, you're not going to go into "starvation mode" (which is possibly the most mis and over-used phrase here) - the reason you store fat at all is so it can be used to fuel your body when food isn't available in the quantities needed to do this. And as far as I'm aware, VLCDs are extremely common recommendations in the medical profession when dealing with dangerously overweight individuals.
Listen to your doctor - if in doubt, consult another doctor. But don't take the diet advice of a bunch of randoms on the Internet over a qualified professional.
that is because its true. Do you know how little training drs get in the form of nutrition and weightloss? I am a nurse practitioner and have to 'educate' quite a few drs on how little they know. They get a general training in all aspects and then they specialise in whatever field they decide to go ie cardiology, respiratory, endocrinology. We live in times where people are well educated and so advice is not necessarily 'random'!
To the OP: the fit to fat radio calculator is great. Never eat below your BMR, you are looking for trouble that way. you want to lose weight and keep it off. Do it by developing healthy habits and exercising. Dont believe your app, try and log it via the mfp database if you can, the calories are estimated but should give you a rough idea of how much you burn. Unless you have a heart rate monitor where you can get a more accurate burn. good luck and definitely eat more than 800 cals!
In short: no. If someone posed a question "my doctor says I have hyperthyroidism but I typed my symptoms into WebMD and it says no, what do you guys think?", would you be applying the same argument? It wouldn't hold up for any other condition, so why should weight be any different? Given the number of overweight individuals that GPs see on a regular basis (to the extent I'd wager that a high proportion of GP visits are either directly weight-related or related to secondary conditions - Diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol issues, etc.), I think it's safe to say the vast majority know what they're talking about.
You have never met the OP, you have no knowledge whatsoever of their medical history or individual set of circumstances - and for you to outright instruct them not to follow their doctor's advice on the grounds that you work in a healthcare-related field is irresponsible at best.
no its not irresponsible. Its making sure that the OP is aware that there is a healthier alternative out there which is sustainable for long term. the problem with quick fixes are that you gain it all back. and unless you know what the training actually involves for GPs or have experience with working with them you cant comment either on what they do/dont know. I just wanted to add...to the people who told me I could NOT be burning 700 calories doing a jog your wrong.... did you factor weight? for my weight it is quite easy to burn that many calories. See right there is proof that not everyone on MFP knows what they are talking about. We aren't experts. If you aren't satisfied with your doctor, my advice is a nutritionist or dietician. Many can be treat you via skype these days. Since you have recent bloodwork you can ask your doctor for a copy and forward that information to a nutritionist so that they can assess your diet and what steps you should take. It is frustrating when everyone is saying do this or do that, but you have to figure out what will work for you. A professional can guide you along the way and make it easier to shut out the noise on MFP versus the solid advice.0 -

Get a VO2max test and you'll know what your calorie burn is.0 -
when I was in weight loss I was 600-1200 cals...it varied at diff times. I did not go into starvation mode... i did not starve...neither did my body....for weight loss its myth myth myth.
I am only 1000 cal at present because i just had sugery last week and not into my full exercise routine as well as have some lbs to get off due to normal surgery.0 -
Hi there,
I have an underactive thyroid gland too and was on thyroxine for years which wrecked my body. have recently switched to armour thyroid and feel amazing on it!
I gained a ton of weight on my previous meds and felt so miserable because no matter how much I dieted or exercised the weight would not come off.
You should think about switching to armour....
I could NOT even lose 1lb while on the thyroxine no matter how hard I tried
Of course everyone is different but I have done a ton of research lately on it all and I believe Armour is the way to go.

Can I just say that, first of all, don't listen to the people saying that what your estimating in terms of how many calories you burn in a workout is too high. I'm 5'5", 218lbs, and I have a heart rate monitor that tells me how many calories I burn. I can burn up to 700 calories in 30 minutes if I push myself. One day I burned over 1400 calories in 2 hours. All bodies are different. What you are estimating, in terms of your height and weight, it is very likely that you burned the amount of calories you think you are burning.
I found this post because I was looking for people who have been advised to go on a meal plan that is under 1200 calories. My personal trainer wants me eating between 1000-1200 cal on days I work out, and between 800-1000 when I don't workout. I was just wondering if you have stuck to this? How did it work for you? Did you end up increasing your cal intake?0 -
I go to a weight loss doctor for lap band and they recommend 800 to 1000 calories and to use myfitnesspal0

Do yourself a favor and google starvation mode, get yourself educated .
Seriously, Google is a very poor research tool unless you know what you are doing - ie, using it to find the info in medical/science journals. Going off of blogs and wikis is not research.
There is no 'starvation mode', not the way people here tend to use the term.
