Swimming

Hello,
I would like to add exercise in my routine. However i have a busted knee. My option is swimming.
I am an ok swimmer, beginner level. Do you have any routine recommendation? how do I know i am working at my maximum and burning calories? how do I know what to do so i dont plateau?
any help would be very much appreciated.
thank you,

Swimming is great. Maybe look for a Masters swim program in your area. They have coachs that can help you out, no matter what the level.

Trust me, if you're working hard at swimming you'll know it!

+1 on the masters swim group recommendation (or any other type of structured program) You'll improve your swimming and your fitness. The weight loss part of the equation happens in your kitchen......

I just started as well. I may take a class or have someone give me some pointers on how to improve. However, I do feel it each time I get out of the water. For the most part I do the crawl stroke/freestyle. I do some other strokes when I get tired (back stroke, breast stroke, side stroke). I watch people the pool (not in a creepy way) to see what they do.
