Another New Guy

Hello all, just another new guy here.

I had a heart attack on September 6 of 2013 at the ripe old age of 38 (39 now). After altering my diet and getting a bit more active, I decided to join a gym just a little over a month after my heart attack. I keep having problems and having to go back in the hospital, but the last hospital stay, I got out on Jan 1, so one of my goals for the year is no more hospital stays.

I quit smoking, severely cut back on the amount of soda I drink, and now with the help of MFP, am watching my caloric intake. The progress has been slow, but I'm sure we all know fast weight loss isn't the greatest idea. The goal I have set of getting down to 220 is actually my cardiologist's goal. He wanted me to be down 40 pounds by the time a year after my heart attack rolls around. I actually think I can do a bit better than that. I remember the day I got out of boot camp, I weighed 180. I'd be happy to see 199 for a day, but I think 200-210 should be a good goal.

Best of luck to all of you! Everyone can reach their goals here, just keep yourself motivated :-)

David

Glad you survived long enough to make a change! :) I started a couple years back by simply cutting out soda (for me, moderation was gonna be tough so I just cut it out all together) and then have continued to make adjustments to my intake. I was near 400lbs when I started and am sitting around 235lbs now. Shooting to wind up near 210-200lbs.

Good luck to you! Stick with it and it'll happen.

My grandfather died of a massive heart attack at age 65, that's 21 years from now for me. I don't want to die the same way. Feel free to add me. You can do this! You're off to a great start just by simply having a plan!
