Any fit outdoorsmen/women?

(This is pretty much aimed at anglers, hunters, trappers, etc. It *should* be somewhat of a given that those of us who also enjoy backcountry hiking are relatively fit, right?)

At work the other day, one of my newer colleagues was asking me what I like to do in my spare time. When I mentioned bass fishing and deer hunting as two of my many passions, she had a legitimate look of shock on her face. When I asked why, she said, "Um, I just didn't see you as that "type" I guess...you seem more health focused than most of those guys..."

While I took that as a compliment, it got me wondering: Are there any more MFP'ers who are functionally and aesthetically fit out there?

I find it somewhat sad that the stereotypical hunter/angler in the 21st century is a fatter rendition of the Duck Dynasty clan. I actually workout so I CAN enjoy the outdoors (anyone who has ever pulled a deer 1.5 miles out of steep terrain will tell you some cardio and strength training is much needed!).

I'm not fit at the moment (losing baby weight) but I LOVE fishing! (And did it when I was fit too...and fat...and pregnant)

I'm not a huge hunter but I've been out turkey hunting a few times. I could fish all day every day in the summer.

I'm actually stoked that a woman was first to chime in! And with all due respect, you look great in your photos so it's encouraging to know that hot chicks like to fish, too. (Trust me, I've spent a LOT of time on the water and can probably count on one hand the number of hot gals I've seen holding fishing poles who actualy knew what they were doing.)

Keep up the good work and you'll be back to your wedding dress size in no time! :drinker:

I would like to think I am. I hunt, fish, ski (snow and water), hike, snowshoe, mountain bike, camp pretty much anything I can do outdoors I am there!

Cheers to that! Would you consider yourself aesthetically fit, functionally fit, or both?

    I would say more functional.

I'm pretty fit. And when I can get away from the city I hunt.

I think you'd have to be fit, if not necessarily aesthetically, to be able to hunt effectively. We don't really have a stereotype here other than the "gods must be crazy" one.

I think its a pity that exercise has been pushed into some form of a marketing scheme in relation to gym memberships, doing celebrity diets and so on... Its removing it from the outdoors and making it clean and boring!
I love hiking, rock climbing ,abseiling and kayaking too when I get the chance! It does irritate me an awful lot when people question me about it as I don't seem to be " the type" for it either!

Agreed on the "marketing scheme". I have a rather unrealistic pipe-dream of founding some program that not only would incorporate survival skills and outdoor techniques, but also take seriously the fitness portion. Alas, I'm afraid that most hunters/anglers would scoff and sit in their lazy chairs and crack open another 6-pack of beer... :indifferent:

I thank you very much :) As soon as it warms up here and things start thawing out, I'll be hiking to my fishing spots instead of driving so that should count for something!

FWIW, shocked more men aren't chiming in here. They must either be too busy on the "hug/spank/bang" boards or as I suspect, I'm in the small minority of guys who like to fish/hunt and I can take my shirt off at the beach and look good, too.
