Kick in the butt needed!

Hi All! I'm new to this site. Just want to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Liz and I'm a late (very late) 40-something wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a Type 2 diabetic. I live in South Central PA with my husband, two daughters and three grandchildren. I work full time as a legal assistant for a mid-sized law firm in Harrisburg, PA. In addition to the diabetes, I also have hypertension, high cholesterol, immune system issues and a form of inflammatory disease which causes arthritis and chronic fatigue (among other things). I'm also an avid reader of romance fiction (yeah, I admitted that! LOL).
I have actually been a long time member of another popular free weight-loss site, but it just hasn't been working for me. I need to lose nearly 100 pounds and need a serious kick in the butt to get myself in the "groove". I've been struggling A LOT lately, trying to do the "right thing" by myself and my diabetes, and filing miserably. Thought I'd give this site a try after hearing good things. Hope to make some like-minded friends here so we can kick each other's butt.

Hi Liz! I'm also new. My name is Janet and like you I live in PA...Pittsburgh. And yes, a HUGE Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan! I'm 47, married, have a 20-year-old daughter (in college) and a 17-year-old son. Like you again, I am a type 2 diabetic since I was pregnant with my son. I was a stay at home mom until 4 years ago when I went back to work for UPMC. When I was at home with my kids is when I started the downhill struggle with my weight and now find myself wanting/needing to lose 50 lbs. I don't know if you're on meds, but I am on orals and I want off them completely. I don't have hypertension or high cholesterol, but I'm afraid if I don't kick my own butt, I'll no doubt be there too.
Working for UPMC, the docs here highly recommend this site/app, so I decided why not. I have an appt. to try out a local gym, but gotta admit, I'm a little self-conscious about it. Saw an infomercial for the Focus T25 with Shawn T and it looks like it could be fun and something to use at home. Have you heard of this or thought of it even? Same guy from Insanity, but newer program, I think. It's nice to find this site and I think the support from others could surely help. My husband and kids are very supportive, but sometimes you need just a little more, you know? I vow to kick your butt if you vow to kick mine! Fingers crossed for the patience and motivation needed to get through this!0 -

It seems to me that your health reports should be your kick in the butt, I can't possibly top that. I do think you should stop looking for negativity to get you motivated, it doesn't work! Positive thoughts and goals will get you in the right mind frame to take better care of yourself. Keep moving forward and celebrate each healthy change!0 -
Sorry to hear all that. But i felt the kick you are right positiveness is the answer thank you. I felt that kick you sent liz as a double whammy in my Gut. :noway:0

Hi. I too have my share of health issues which continue to get better as I lose weight. I had a recent setback (gained12.8 lbs) but I am back on track. I've lost 50 lbs + so far. Here are couple of things that have helped me: Don't weigh yourself more than once a week. Track what you eat and be truthful when you slip up. That has been my biggest problem. If I don't track when I screw up, I get way off track. So when you mess up, track it and be sure to write yourself a daily note to stay positive and focused. Then forget about it and move on. We forgive others who make mistakes. Be sure to forgive yourself. I cook all the time to control what I eat but when I go to a restaurant I never eat bread, instead of salad I ask for soup and take it home, I eat only 1/2 of what is served. in case I ordered something a little decadent, I don't over indulge. Then I give the leftovers including the soup to my husband for his lunch the next day. Track track track!0
