Water Consumption

Hi All!

I try to drink six 16 oz bottles of water a day but sometimes I only can get three in. However, I drink coffee, tea, smoothies, and protein shakes all day long as well. I am in the bathroom all day long too.

Would you consider tea, smoothies, and shakes a source of water consumption?

I definitely would count tea and coffee and in my own diary I also count soda pop and milk. I wouldn't count the smoothie BUT I don't count soup either. Those are bonus fluid to me. As for your protein shake if it's primarily water, why not count it?

Why are you aiming for so much water?

You get lots of water from your food, including drinks, so you probably don't need to load up on so much water. I drink around 80 oz a day because I feel dehydrated if I don't. I live in a pretty dry area.

1 cup of water is generally 8 oz. 8 cups should suffice.

Hi SueJo - Drink an extra glass of water for each caffeinated beverage you consume because caffeine dehydrates you. Smoothies and protein shakes (if made with water) should count toward your consumption of water.

A general rule is you should drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of water daily. Drinking water aids in flushing out the system.

I only count water only. No mixtures.

my understanding is that if the beverage has caffeine in it, it does not count. Over hydration can cause a drop in electrilites, I stick to 8 - 8 oz cups per day.

I also add coffee in my meals and snacks as it is 9 calories and I drink it black with no sugar.

I usually just count the water I drink. You can count tea, but if it has too much caffeine it can have a diuretic effect which is why you shouldn't count coffee or pop.

You could always add water to your beverages and count that. I like to water down my juice and pop. If I were to do that, I would probably count the amount of water that I put into the beverage.

I am trying to drink at least 80 ounces of water a day. We are suppose to drink half our body weight in water a day. 250 pounds = 125 ounces of water a day :)

Watering down juices sounds interesting. I love orange juice but it have so much sugar and calories.
