YES, type 2, diagnosed April 2010 so still working with it, and I think with the little weight loss I have had am managing it better. This site is great as it allows us to keep an eye on our carbs as well as calories.
  • thanks for getting back to me. I was diagnosed April 2007 I had low sugar shock last week. Watching everything now maybe looking for a medical ID.

I have had diabetes for over 35 years now. I started with gestational diabetes when I was pregnant. Went from taking 11 pills a day to 6 shots a day for over 1000 units of insulin a day. I had gone through 5 types of insulin and was becoming immune to insulin. Diabetes runs throughout my family. Before the age of 53 I had 3 heart attacks and 4 stents inserted into my heart. After gaining weight until I had ballooned up to 243 lbs at 5 ft 4 in I had a gastric bypass in January of this year on the advice of my endocrinoligist and have lost 86 pounds to date. As of Nov 18 of this year I am "officially" off of insulin and take metform to control my sugar. After the weight loss my sugar became stable again and I no longer experienced the highs and lows.

All of my doctors (especially my heart doctor) are extremely pleased with my progress.

I now go to they gym 5 days a week and I feel better than ever.

Hang in there and get that weight off and take care of your diabetes. It is a TERRIBLE disease and can lead to other problems.

I will help you in any way I can.

Just joined MFP as a result of being diagnosed Type 1 three weeks ago. Bit of a shock since it doesn't run in the family and I'm a bit old to develop Type 1 now (I've been told). Anyway, now need to carb count and so thought this app might help. Any other type 1's out there? Tracy
