long hair and exercise

Any suggestions for best hairstyle to keep long hair at bay when exercising (running mainly)? A ponytail flops around too much. A bun doesn't stay because it's too long. Also I have layers so they don't like to stay in and I usually have to wear a headband.

pony tail- then braid.
and use the momentum to help you keep stride.0 -
Braid it and then put it in a bun? Princess Leah buns?0

I have martial arts, competition and sparring once a week and technique once a week.
I totally feel you!
I just make a pony tail or two braids behind my head and use hairpins and clips to keep it from moving.
Multiple rubber bands are essential. And you could also put it inside of your shirt, but that can be really annoying.0 -
I put my hair in a ponytail but tuck the hair into the elastic band so it doesn't flop around, kind of like a lazy bun.0

Sock bun. That works for me.0

french braid with hairspray? Maybe a headband too?0

Mine does great in just a ponytail, but my hair isn't overly thick.0

French Braid. I have really long hair with layers and bangs. I make a really tight French braid. if It feels loose at the nape, I through a fluffy scrunchy around the base. I also wear a no slip headband to keep the fly aways under control.
That said, I'm taking supplements to make it longer. I'm at 22" now, I will have my 26" hair from high school again!0 -
Mine usually ends up in a 1/2 pulled through pony with a headband that collects sweat. Mine stays in fairly well though, I have thick curly hair.0

This plus a headband for the wispies.0 -
I just braid my hair wear a sweaty band. The braid doesn't bother me.0

THIS. Keeps the flyaways tucked down with the ponytail, then the braid keeps the sticky off the back of my neck. My hair is long, to my mid back, so I feel yer pain. This hairstyle is also the best I've found for surfing.0 -
thx for all the ideas ladies!0

low to the side braid, with headband or hat!0

braid and a hat. Or a low ponytail at the base of your neck and a hat. I love running in a hat - it keeps all the wispies away and my ponytail in place. I used to have hair halfway down my back and wore a low ponytail because braiding took too long and a hat.0

Just tie it back0

French braid. It keeps bangs out of your face too.0

Double french braid.
I just pull my hair back into a pony tail or a braid and wear a ball cap.
I do need to think of something better though because it's too fussy when its loose.0 -
Tuck it in back of your shirt/pants?0

If I go running outside I like a pony tail and a baseball hat. Inside a bun seems to hold mine pretty good. Depending on what I am doing, I always seem to have to but it back up a few times during my work out.0

Lazy high bun with 2 hair bands (my hair slips loose with just one) and a head/sweatband works for me.0
