Is it bad that my breakfast is worth 1000 calories?

I have a huge breakfast that consists of 1000 calories. I don't know why, but I always have a huge appetite when I wake up because I fast during the night for 13-14 hours. Then I just eat a 250 calorie lunch and a 250-300 calorie dinner. Is this bad? I'm pretty much at my goal weight, just trying to maintain. Sometimes I just skip lunch because I still feel full from my breakfast. On days like that, I just eat a 500 calorie dinner 8 hours later.

If it's working for you - then it's fine!

Your diary says your goal is 1200 calories, so you are going over every day. Your diary also shows inconsistant logging. If your looking for approval to overeat, you probably won't find it here. I would suggest logging consistanly for a week and then reevaluate your goals. I wish you luck! :flowerforyou:

Meal timing doesn't matter. I'm super hungry in the morning too and can eat up to 700 calories no problem. Then I graze on low cal things most of the rest of the day and have a 500-700 cal dinner.

The most important thing at this stage is to make sure you're getting the right number of calories overall to maintain. Without knowing your stats, it's hard to say but 1500-1800 sound about right for a female. If you're active, you may need a bit more.

Meal timing doesn't matter, so just eat so that you feel satisfied. 1500 calories seems a little low for maintenance, but I don't know your size or activity level. I'd just double check those numbers on a few different calculators and try experimenting. Several people have mentioned that MFP sets maintenance calories too low for them.

I'm 5'4, 115-117 pounds and I exercise for about an hour everyday. I hope 1600 calories isn't too much for me.

Sometimes my breakfast is that much, but it's usually 800-900 calories. Nothing wrong with that!

MFP says that to lose .5 lbs a week I should be eating 1350 a day. I work out 6 times a week (3 cardio/3 strength training) and go over my calories at least 2 days a week (sometimes by +500). I am losing 1 - 2 lbs a week consistently.

If it's working for you OP, then do what works.

Not at all! Ran your numbers on Scooby's workshop (link below) - not sure on age so assumed median age of 35. With your activity level, you could probably eat more like 1900-2200 and still maintain.

  • I am not sure where you are getting your 1000 calorie number because the only breakfasts that I see you have recorded over the past couple of weeks are around 500 calories. I may not have looked back far enough or you might be recording it in a different program than what I looked at. The distribution of the calories over the day do not really matter. My breakfast is usually my highest calorie meal of the day at around 500-600 calories, with the rest of my calories distributed between lunch, dinner and one or two snacks. It is best for your body to eat often throughout the day.

However, to really know where you are at with your eating you do need to be consistent with writing everything down. Then you can see if there are places that you need to make a change. From what I am seeing you need a lot more protein. You also need more fruits and vegetables. You can lose weight and just get skinny or you can lose weight and be healthy and strong. Without knowing what your goal is it is hard to give much advice other than keep recording what you are eating and if it is getting you where you want to be then it is working :)

1,000 calories just on breakfast..........WOW!! What do you eat? How many do you consume a day?

I LOVE breakfast - But couldn't afford to have 1,000 go first thing hahaha!

Like someone said. Meal timing doesn't matter. I do intermittent fasting 16:8. My first meail at noon sometimes is that large. So, if you enjoy having that meal be the largest and don't mind the smaller meals the rest of the day, keep at it. All that matters is if you're happy with what you see in the mirror and or on the scale.

Some studies show that eat most of your food at breakfast and then smaller meals throughout the day could lead to increase wieght lose.

Only if leaves you wanting for the rest of the day.......it's possible you could overeat, so see how it goes and keep that in the back of your mind just for reference.
  • I like hearing that jt_alucard :) That could explain why I have been losing more than I should be when just my calories and exercise are taken in to consideration. I usually have more calories for breakfast than for any other individual meal during the day. Do you happen to have links to the studies? I would be interested in seeing them.
