Why I hate eating breakfast.

I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I know that it jump starts your metabalism but I hate eating it. If I don't eat breakfast until like 11ish, I'm fine. I'm hungry but I can deal with it. When I eat an early breakfast like today, Im freakin starving all morning!! I end up eating more!

I do the exact same thing! I make myself eat breakfast now because I'm "suppose to" but I end up hungry like 1 hour later. When I don't eat breakfast I'm good till lunch and stay on my calories easily all day.
  • i do too just coffee and im always good but now i always drink a protein shake right now i'm on some jay robb ish! sooo yummy with unsweeten vanilla almond milk (which is all i drink) i started breakfast about two month ago and i do notice a difference when doing breakfast it not soild food but im not a breakfast person.
  • That is the whole point! Ur supposed to get hungry before lunch. Mid morning snacks are key to keep that metabo up! It also helps eat a lighter lunch. I think that is why a lot of ppl stuggle with weight loss. They don't eat enough. Hope that helps!

You should be eating every 3-4 hours anyway, starting with breakfast within an hour of waking up. If you are having trouble staying under your calories on those days, just eat smaller meals all day instead of larger ones twice a day.

Piggy backing off of ZumbaMami... uhm, you are supposed to eat! There is so much bs out there that in order to lose weight you are supposed to starve. That's not how it works. In fact, that works against you. It'll help trigger your body to hold onto the things you eat for the next "famine" that comes along.

So as for breakfast, I think I've told you this before, but just in case, try eating different things. Some people do better on a carby breakfast, some are better on fatty stuff. Protein generally is a good thing for everyone. For me, if I have too many carbs - like just a bagel and fruit - I'll be starving soon. Give me something hearty: sausage and eggs, then I'm good for awhile and my head is clear. Oatmeal is somewhere in the middle for me, but it has to be real steel cut oats, not rolled. So try having different breakfasts and see what your body does.

Just to give you an idea of what I eat generally at work:
    6am - protein bar + cup coffee
8:30 - 9am - 2 turkey sausage links and fresh fruit (ex: apple, canteloupe, sometimes a little pineapple)
Lunch @ 12ish (usually decently hungry)

I usually eat a bagel thin with natural PB between breakfast and lunch. The PB keeps me full until then. Yesterday I tried Greek yogurt with fruit in the bottom and that did the trick also.
  • I agree. I have an 'older' lady at work (she has to be in in her 60s) and she refuses to eat every couple of hours. Says it's too much food. She has a granola bar at breakfast, yogurt and p n j for lunch and maybe some crackers for dinner. She walks but complains about how she is not in shape. I told her to eat at least 6 times a day and gave her a run down..breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack and she was like "No Way! That is just too much to eat in a day". Alot of people have that mentality but I agree, it keeps your metabolism up so you burn more through out the day. If you only eat when hungry your body is starving it's self and though you might see some results the end result is not what you will get if you eat 6 times a day and work out
  • You eat more because you are supposed to mami! It jumps starts your metabolism. I know for me all my life I always contributed eating with gaining weight but eating is also substantial for losing weight as well. Your body needs the jump start to get to work. Work on burning food as you are active through the day. You should be eating every two the three hours. I know it's sounds nuts but when I started eating breakfast and eating regularly that's when the weight started coming off. I am a beast at the gym but didn't see results until my eating changed and I was with ya, one of those people who didn't even consider food until almost noon. infact even now I have to battle nausea after eating early in the a.m because my body went 40 years without being on a regular breakfast schedule. Best of luck to ya luv.

Just an FYI. The small meals boosting your metabolism or increasing fat loss has been dispelled. That doesn't mean I don't do spread my meals out, but only because I eat until I am full and find myself hungry sooner.

I normally only have coffee for breakfast, and then maybe have a protein shake or apple around 11am. I know a lot of people disagree with this, but it works for me..

What do you eat for breakfast? Everyone is different and some foods are more filling than others. The protein/carb/fat combo for breakfast doesn't keep me full. However, if I have a bowl of old-fashioned oatmeal with walnuts, cinnamon, brown sugar and ground flax seed, then I'm good for hours. Even when I do spin class.
I'm also at 1200 calories and I will usually spend about 300-350 for breakfast.
I think it's great you are trying to switch things up!

Oh dear...I'm bigger than you, much bigger than you. Height and weight wise. But the principal is the same. You should never be starving yourself. Remember this is all proportional to what we need - even though I have a higher daily goal (~2200 by MFP), my body has a LOT more to take care of than you do. So while it may seem like I eat a lot in a day, I need it to fuel my body. You're just smaller, so you'll need a different amount of energy. I gave you the stuff that I eat so you can have an idea of how I break my morning up. (btw, I get up at 4am...)

Anyway, the point is to find things that work WITH your body, not against it. If you are eating what your body needs, you shouldn't be feeling deprived or starved. Fiber and protein are great things to keep you feeling satisfied - along with proper nutrients. It's been a very difficult road for me to learn these things, but it's only in coming to realize it, that I've been able to lose weight and not feel tortured.

And I'll add, I've done a huge overhaul in my diet. I eat a lot more natural foods now that have more nutrients (local fresh produce and local hormone/antibiotic free range meats). Once I did that, I've found a major change in my body. I'm not as hungry as I was when I was eating the "substitutes," because I know my body is getting the stuff it really needs - not modified food starch and fake sugars, etc.

This hasn't been easy for me, and doubtedly for anyone else on here. So try out the suggestions we give you until you figure out what works best for you. :)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will keep switching things up to see what works for me. MFP tells me to loose weight i need the 1200 calories but I've gone to other websites and they have calculated to MAINTAIN my current weight that i need like 1700. So I'm thinking that I'll eat every 2 hours and even if i go over the 1200..i wont let myself go over the 1700 and see how that works.

The 1700 and 1200 make sense.

    1700 - 500 = 1200. That's a 500 deficit each day. 500 x 7 = 3500 = 1 pound per week. :)

Good luck! And if you need anything, you are always welcome to PM me.

Your body WILL adjust. Yes, you'll be a little hungrier for a while - maybe a week or so - because your body is now accustomed to having to go so long without anything it will use it up faster. But once you're in the habit, your body will adjust and you won't be so hungry.
