A pain in the neck.

Hi. I'm a 51 year old woman who a year ago did my first Triathlon. I'd worked to lose and train for it. I did several 5k's in the past. I was very active and loved it all. I was so heathy, having come off my lupus & BP meds.
Last year around February I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in the neck. I ignored it cuz it got better with some muscle relaxers.

It came back in October. Within days the pain was brutal and after an MRI they told me I had a pinched nerve and herniated disc. I followed all the pre operation stuff they recommended: phy therapy, drug therapy, and steroid shots in the neck. Nothing worked so they scheduled me for surgery in Jan. I got bumped up to 12/19 due to a cancellation. Sadly, the night before the surgery I was involved in a car accident. Someone read ended us and I was in the back seat of a Dodge Ram. No head rest between me and rear windshield. We were hit at 35-40 mph. I stopped counting at 3 how many times I hit my neck and head. I was taken to ER. They took X-rays, prescribed drugs, sent the films to the doc doing my surgery.

The recovery time for surgery was 10-14 days being back to work part time. Here I am 2 months later still in horrid pain and permanently injured due to car accident my neurosurgeon said. She told me I might live with this level of pain for the rest of my life. I'll need more surgery. And more surgery in 1-2 years to fuse all my neck bones. I've learned since my first neurosurgeon operated that he made a few mistakes.

One being he shouldn't have operated day after accident. He left 3 staples in my head for 7 weeks and he lied on my surgical notes. There's so much more but I hope I made myself clear (being on m relaxers and pain pills for 4 months I question my intelligence).

I'm able to do walks to mailbox but that's it. I'm very limited in my movements. I'm miserable and want to get better. I miss running and elliptical time so much. I've gained. 28 pounds being inactive.
Is there anyone that has been through similar injuries? Gotten better? Want to be friends and offer each other support? Please add if you'd like.

Thank you all who read this.

Veronica

Omg that is so unfair, you work that hard to get and stay healthy then in a moment its gone. Im so sorry you are having to go through this, the not knowing what is ahead would drive me crazy i know. As far as medical advice i dont think i could deal with doc that you think screwed up if you can find someone else that will listen there has to be something they can do. I have 3 cervical degenerative bulging disc not ruptured but pinching nerve that runs into my head i constantly have headaches and lots of trouble getting sleep cause i cant get comfy. I havent seen a doc yet for it cause i know they want to start with physical therapy and injections and i have very high ded ins so it all comes out of my pocket and i cant afford it. I have had success with the pain with accupunture if you can find someone good it does work. Luckily i can exercise i just have to be careful with some ab stuff if i dont support my neck. Maybe you could try swimming too that very easy on jpints in general. Good luck
